Posted January 17, 200916 yr Defiance is a 2008 war film directed by Edward Zwick. Set in the eastern regions of German Nazi-occupied Poland (now western Belarus) during World War II, the film is an adaptation of Nechama Tec's Defiance: The Bielski Partisans, which is based on the true story of the Bielski partisans. Tec's book told how Polish Jews came together for common protection and to oppose the German occupation of their homeland. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/5/5e/Defianceposter08.jpg/210px-Defianceposter08.jpg This is a remarkable movie with Daniel Craig, really provoking true story of grit and drama, well worth watching.
January 17, 200916 yr This looks quite good :o Loads of films are coming out this year that normally wouldnt be to my taste but ive got to say the film quality this year is looking impressive so far.
January 17, 200916 yr It's a good film technically, Zwick certainly knows how to direct action and battle sequences, and the story itself is excellent.... But, some of the dialogue aint half stilted, I think a better script was needed, what works in a book, often doesn't translate so well to film.... Wasn't really convinced by Daniel Craig's performance either tbh..... Liev Schreiber I felt did a better job.... It's a slight missed oppotunity I felt, which I was bit disappointed by because I really wanted this film to be the perfect companion for "The Reader", which I felt was an excellent film....
February 2, 200916 yr This was a good film, definately worth watching but as Grim pointed out it is by no means perfect. I can't say I'm a huge fan of Daniel Craig as I find his characters very difficult to like and once again in this film as the connection is not quite there I didn't find myself that bothered when he came close to death (i.e most of the way through the film) which is of course important when he is supposed to be the heroin.
