Posted January 22, 200916 yr So...as I await the big one (Melodifestivalen), it's the time of another Scandi-country who had huge success at the start of the decade with Olsen Brothers & Rollo & King but have since fallen back to mid-table positions...here are my reviews of Denmark's ten songs, which in general are of a much lower quality than Norway's 23... 01 Trine Jepsen - I'll Never Fall In Love Again // typical schlager fare, like a slightly less epic Hero but still very good female pop-dance which would win over people who haven't got bored of this sound yet (me then!) // 9/10 02 Jeppe Breum Laursen - Lucky Boy // hmm...sounds like the bad track on Alphabeat's album crossed with some dodgy Duran Duran tribute act's best offering...very 80's influenced, not loving his voice but the backing vocals are quite nice...was going to give it a low mark but the chorus is incredibly infectious and it gets a respectable mark for that alone // 7/10 03 Marie Carmen Koppel - Crying Out Your Name // I've walked back into the early 1990s...Saxophone jazz-pop sounds like a Sunday afternoon in 1993 watching Aladdin...think Curtis Stigers, Vanessa Williams, Take That's A Million Love Songs etc crossed with all of the early 90's Disney soundtrack songs...incredibly old fashioned, wouldn't pick up many points I don't think...a bit too cluttered for juries and certainly wouldn't pick up televotes // 5/10 04 Sukkerchok - Det' Det // Foreign song alert! Oh no, this is ESC forum not BJSC forum so I'm allowed to show my appreciation :heehee: the best song so far in this selection I'd say, more Schlager but slightly more interesting than Trine Jespen's song...I'd imagine whatever Det' Det means could be translated happily into English to make quite the great pop song! Still, I can't imagine it winning DMGP or indeed Eurovision // 9/10 05 Jimmy Jørgensen - Alice In The Wonderland // guitar, piano pop/rock stuff, like a number of this decade's Danish entries thrown together into one...nice melody but the lyrics are atrocious and his vocals are poor...6 for the melody though // 6/10 06 Hera Björk - Someday // the fan favourite so I hear...this is an almost epic hi-NRG ballad which shouldn't work at all but it does...I think this would go down incredibly well on Buzzjack if it were to go through for Denmark...think Empty Room meets Invincible meets Don't Play That Song Again. Cheesy and dated but great // 9/10 07 Claus Christensen - Big Bang Baby // didn't think much of this one at all...male sung mid-tempo pop, sung in Danish but it didn't win me over in anyway, the chorus is verging on interesting but not compared to some of the other songs // 4/10 08 Johnny Deluxe - Sindssyg // love, love, love the introduction, sounds like what Alphabeat's first single from their next album should sound like...the quality is not maintained throughout unfortunately and is another male singing a Danish language song...certainly better than the song before it and as an instrumental it would be great...isn't it annoying when the melody/backing track promise so much yet the vocals on top aren't up to much at all...could grow though // 6/10 09 Christina Undhjem - Underneath My Skin // the only really big female power ballad in the selection...suffers slightly from what some of the other songs in this selection suffer from in that whereas Norway seem to be fairly rooted in 2009 with R&B and electropop, Denmark's songs are either all 80's influenced or oddly, early 90's influenced...songs like this went out with Toni Braxton, Oleta Adams and Vanessa Williams (again!)...melodically though it's a nice song but let's imagine this going through to the final and competing with an ALW/Diane Warren penned song by Jade Ewen...there are hints of Delta and Lucie Silvas in there somewhere though and it definitely sounds like a grower // 7/10 10 Brinck - Believe Again // One for Pavel, this was either co-written or produced (can't remember which) by Ronan Keating...The singer, Brinck sounds very much like Ronan too actually, he has the same vocal growl. This song is what Boyzone should enter for Ireland into Eurovision. Quite anthemic, very pleasant Boyzone-like verses and a nice ESC-style chorus that reminds me slightly of the stuff Cher was churning out ten years ago, All Or Nothing, Song For The Lonely and such like...possibly my favourite of the bunch // 9/10 overall, no 10/10 songs but quite a few very strong songs...my personal favourites are Brinck (who I believe would get good jury support at the very least), Sukkerchok, Trine Jepsen and Hera Bjork...could I see any of these winning Eurovision? no. I think Denmark will be back in their usual mid-table, high unqualifying semi-finalist position but anything would be an improvement on the tragic Drama Queen and All Night Long...

It has a good chorus as you say quite anthemic, but I think it sounds more like the songs on his solo albums than the stuff he has done with Boyzone, its more guitar driven. I haven't had a chance to listen to all the rest yet, although I did briefly listen to Someday - I liked that one too, and as its the fan favourite I expect that to be the winner.
January 22, 200916 yr Author interesting looking bunch aren't they  http://tirydou.free.fr/Finales_nationales/2009/danemark.html

January 29, 200916 yr Hear the songs and vote for your favs: http://www.dr.dk/melodigrandprix/forside2009.htm

February 1, 200916 yr best of the ten  And its now off to the finals, Niels wins :yahoo: :cheer:
February 2, 200916 yr Author and the best song wins  how amazing, looks like Brinck, Jade, Alexander Rybak and Waldo's People will be battling it out in my chart for the forseeable future  he is essentially just mini-Ronan though isn't he :heehee:
February 2, 200916 yr and the best song wins  how amazing, looks like Brinck, Jade, Alexander Rybak and Waldo's People will be battling it out in my chart for the forseeable future  he is essentially just mini-Ronan though isn't he :heehee: And as hot as Ronan :kink: Brinck, Alexander Rybak and Waldo's People FTW! So far I don't like UK entry :(
February 2, 200916 yr I'd say hotter. He hasn't got the stupid Colin Farrell esque hair yet (totally ruined Colin for me too!) Erm, anyway :kink: Quite a good song, but I'll be surprised if Ireland can come up with something that good!
February 2, 200916 yr Am I he only one who thought the Ronan Keating song sounded like a dirge taken from one of his serious later solo album. Still I'm so glad I listened, if I was Danish I'd have been so annoyed that the singer out of Junior Senior who had his old partner guesting on keyboards should have won hands down with an addictive tune that make Alphabeat seem like Radiohead.
February 2, 200916 yr Author it was one of my least favourites, Hera Bjork was second best, followed by Trine Jepsen, Sukkerchok and Johnny Deluxe...glad all of the good songs went the furthest in the National Final :D and the best song won! having said that, it's still a 7/10 song, such was the quality of the National Final
February 3, 200916 yr Author every song on Brinck's MySpace sounds like Boyzone/Ronan Keating  http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea...endID=160101815
February 3, 200916 yr  Too true! Ronan has retired anyway - someone needs to continue his work
February 3, 200916 yr And i have just realised that he REALLY looks like Ronan! (Having found the photo that proves it better)
February 6, 200916 yr Author an advert for Ronan's new album, sorry I meant Brinck of course :kink: BuzO4j-LDIY there is also a 4 minute version available on everybody's favourite ESC blog which sounds even MORE like Boyzone because of some added harmonies at the end!
