Its Winston Churchill

Good fun performance though.

Shame its gone down on iTunes as a result of it though! One of their best songs and its going to sink like a stone. I hope they don't release a third single now! Best wait for the tour and see if the million plus people watching them will do a bit for the album sales. Plus ... they can console themselves that they'll have next year's biggest selling music dvd with the dvd of The Circus tour. I can't wait (going to see them on Sat & Sun at Old Trafford!)

Definitely live ... but Gary looks really uncomfortable. I can honestly only hear Jason on harmony.

From the way Gary is sitting and trying to smile it seems for me that he was in real pain because of his back (and with having a lot of trouble with that I know how hurtfull it can be). So I guess it was that or the pain killers he had taken so that it wouldn´t be "Take Three" on stage. But yeah mainly Jason harmony and I think he need to practise a bit more for the tour in that

Wonder how the live performance of "The Garden" will go on  if they ever do it live on europe ´s tv shows

I'm not that sure if it matters to be honest whether they do a live performance or a mimed one in Europe. Britney has heaps of success miming her way round the world ... so why should Take That go to the bother of singing live when they know their songs won't sell anyway. Pessimistic I know - but The Circus has flopped majorly outside of the UK. I hate to admit it but they really are just a UK success story - I don't know why I think in general ... their music isn't that popular in the rest of Europe. I don't know ... maybe the rest of Europe (apart from the die-hard fans) just don't like the music of Take That. I think most of Europe would rather have Robbie than Take That. Well he'll be back soon!

If they are doing the one german TV show that Universal want them to do, then they need do sing live as everyone needs to sing live there (and is the reason Britney never was there  )

I wouldn´t say in general that TT are without sucess in Europe - my radiostation is loving TT, and playing at least twice a day a song. And most people know TT if the topic went to in that direction, but I think the age of the fans has changed. And apart from the hardcore fans they just don´t buy the singles or albums anymore. its enough that the radio station is playing the songs, if they are coming for a tour its a reason to buy a ticket (and the tour 2007 was nearly sold out with 7 shows in Germany not that bad)....but not real a album - special if you not know that there is a new one out which happen with "The Circus"

But apart from that I think TT are a major UK thing - not sure if we can blame TT or Universal for the lack of promo in Europe to change the things over there or if they are just not interested in that.

if they do promotion i agree it should be live and also because i feel they perform better live anyhow,,again i really dont think take that are pushing for success outside uk and ireland they seem to be taking it all in their stride,i suppose in the uk they are lucky as the public are simply crazy about them and they now have wide appeal in the uk audience which is of huge benefit, soemtimes it all happens for them in the uk without them really having to do alot

The last time they were on Wetten Das - they did sing Reach Out and BFG live so they probably will this time. Don't think it'll make any difference at all. As Schnapperin says ... they ARE getting the airplay ... people aren't buying the songs. Whic to me means that although the radio stations now like them ... the public don't like the songs enough to buy them. If that makes sense!

Anyway ... back on topic. UAN only went up just a measly 14 places on iTunes as a result of the show. I think the fact that anyone who wants the song already has it. I was so sure when I heard this was to be the single that it'd be number 1! Never ask me for any tips on the Grand National!

The next update - at 9 am(ish) it hadn't budged. Pete I'm going to place a bet now. I think Rich (TIP) was right ... UAN is going to do even worse than IWFL! :( :(

  • 2 weeks later...

a little fact and i mean little take that have had 17 top 10 hits so far and out out of the 17

11 have gone number 1

2 have got to number 2

2 have made number 3

2 have made number 7

so as we are all fairly confident up all night wont go top 3 wouldnt a number 4,5,6,8,9 ht be nice for a change 10 would mean a top 10 hit also but i would prefer a single number peak myself

Well its starting to fall quite drastically now on iTunes ... so it has to have absolutely fantastic physical sales to make it into the top ten. I think the midweek today will show top 10 ... but then by Friday a more realistic 12.

I can't believe how badly this song has flopped. Time to say NO NO NO to a third single.

Need to post that:

"Making similarly great strides this week are Take That who shoot up 20 places to Number 17 with their latest offering 'Up All Night'. Whereas normally their singles are expected to fly to the top of the singles chart in short order, they are in a curious position with this new track, coming as it does on the back of some record-bending sales of parent album 'The Circus' which has inevitably diluted the potential market for its second single. As they demonstrated back in 2007, they are not immune from having smaller hit singles in the download era, their single 'I'd Wait For Life' peaking at what is for them a comparatively lowly Number 17. Its not that 'Up All Night' is necessarily destined to go no further, but should it fall back next week we should not be totally shocked. Its one saving grace is the fact that it goes physical this week meaning that a small sales boost from dedicated collectors is on the cards. In the meantime they can console themselves with the fact that this is one of three Top 75 singles they can claim this week, with 'Greatest Day' still smouldering at Number 52 and the evergreen 'Rule The World' refusing to die, this week at Number 73 on what is its 64th week as a Top 75 hit."

As it bugs me no end that this great song and Depeche Mode won't get what they deserve, i wil take a break from looking at any chart in the next months. I am not a friend of quantity over quality. I prefer to keep my music love as to go bitter.

I am only very sad for Mark that he has no chance in the music songwriting and gets no recognition at all and also for the other two songwriters of the song , appart from TT, which would have been nice to have some luck in the business (as i like some of their music). Oh God, these Tuesday-depressions  . I definitely need a nice cup of very hot tea :teresa: .

But he does get recognition, in that if we did a poll of what is the best song on the album - Up All Night would win hands down! Its Gary's favourite song too ... and he said Mark wrote most of it (all the lyrics were Mark's as well as his input into the melody - and the lyrics on this song are fab!)

Well, he gets recognition only from a couple of TT-fans. The most of them are only knowing that Gary is writing the songs.

Have you seen some artists quieing at Mark's door for new songs? The papers are also only going on about Gary talents, fogetting the other three  . At least Howard has his own carrier as DJ, and it goes independent of what TT is doing. Jason didn't try his hand till now on something, so i cannot see how well he will do.

I was hoping Mark will have a chance to write songs for some top artists, as it is obvious he will never have a solo carrier.

outside the fans though mark doesnt get alot of song writing credibility as its often just assumed gary wrote everything but i think once the fans know its the main thing

I think you're wrong actually. A lot of people in the music industry know about his skills as a song-writer. I think he and Gary too will be writing together for people in the future (as I can't see TT carrying on beyond a third album ... no matter what they say). Besides ... all the talk of Gary being here, there and everywhere ... it is just pants! Its the papers building up ... the only reason they're doing it is they can't wait for him to fall! Like this Kili climb ... the press are just waiting for him to drop out! They're already calling him the 'fat one' holding the others up.

Norma

I would have to disagree i think mark only gets recognition from a few take that fans and as iris said you dont hear of anyone really wanting to wrok with mark as a song writer where you do with gary,,i think the press will have avery long wait for gary to fall again as he is made of much stronfer stuff 2nd time round and in general the press are great with gary,i think th epress know gary is now a family man with a great marriage and 3 kids and they know that is his main priority and no matter what happens career wise he will have that and the press cant touch that,i think knowing that the press wont hound him as much as garys knows how to keep a very low profile when he wants to.

I think also that the third one will be the last "new album". I am sure they will make than a GH like everybody and hush into the shadow. But I don't think Gary will write with Mark for other artists. Till now he didn't do that (even at the Britannia High no song was written together). I was hoping that Robbie would give Mark the hand, but when he didn't do it before 2005 , it is pointless to believe he will do that now.

Gary is in the position to risk a flop without falling. Even the Britannia High or John's what-is-his-name flop didn't harm his crown. I don't blame Gary for becoming all the glory, as he said in more interviews about Mark's input especially in Rule the world, Shine and now UAN. But i still get angry that the media give him credit for everything.

Beside money to subvent his solo albums, the TT era didn't bring to Mark anything to help him to climb. Mark is the person to hate , especially for the old TT fans I feel, and every flop will be bound to him. He rised minimal the circle of persons able to enjoy his music (as his music is not targetted to the normal TT fan). The nonTT fans didn't enjoy his voice , the boyband past and so on. His only chance was to write for other, but, like i said, i didn't heard any of the artists even to praise Mark for his efforts...
