February 8, 200916 yr Author There are 2 charts, the top 40 and top 100. The top 40 is based on a mix of airplay and sales (physical and downloads) while the top 100 is based on sales alone (physical and downloads). I prefer to use the top 100, as it reflects what people buy and download, and there isn't any influence of a radio station. #7 Australia Edited February 8, 200916 yr by Jur
February 9, 200916 yr I think the top 40 is better as radio station and tv stations play what's popular, and the way they make the top 40 is how most charts are done
February 13, 200916 yr Author I think music and radio stations like TMF and Radio 538 have to much influence. Sometimes a song reaches the top 10 in the top 40 thanx to airplay, while it barely sells a record (and reaches a low position in the top 100). I prefer a chart that reflects what people buy! I really like(d) the top 40, but I think they count airplay way to heavy. *Updates*
February 13, 200916 yr Don't agree there. Airplay shows what people want to hear and therefore what's popular
February 15, 200916 yr Author Or what music stations force down upon us ;) I mean, Alphabeat 'Boyfriend' (example) reached #12 top 40 (9 wks) and #71 top 100 (1 wk). Is this a hit or flop? I think the difference between both charts is sometimes to big. So that's why I prefer a chart that reflects what people buy/download. But then again, we don't agree on this point. Fair enough! #5 Australia (new peak)
February 15, 200916 yr Jur is right. Radio plays what radio wants to play. This is why the hot 100 sucks too. It should always be sales only... Great for Oz. :D
