i was scanning the web (as you do) and came across this when i googled Joss:

British singer Joss Stone is playing her part to encourage Americans to vote today (Nov. 4) in the 2008 president election. "I keep having interviews about trying to encourage people to vote, and people ask, 'Why do you care, you're English'" Stone tells Billboard.com "That tells me that maybe America doesn't realize how much they affect the rest of the world."

Last night, Stone performed her politically driven new song "Governmentalist" as part of voter registration group HeadCount's sold-out concert at the Highline Ballroom in New York. The show also featured Phil Lesh, Robert Randolph, Warren Haynes, John Medeski, Disco Biscuit, ?uestlove and Stanton Moor, and was streamed live on iclips.net.

"Governmentalist," which Stone wrote in response to criticism she received from a U.K. government official after speaking against poor medical care of Iraq War veterans, will appear on the 21-year-old singer's forthcoming album. Stone says the as-yet-untitled set was written and recorded in about a week earlier this year in Devon, England, and hopes it will be released in April.

"I kind of woke up one morning and wanted to make an album," Stone says. "It's very, very raw. It's a bunch of musicians, writers and myself, and we're just jamming, basically."

Stone's new album will be the follow-up to 2007's "Introducing Joss Stone" (Virgin), which debuted at No. 2 on The Billboard 200 and has sold 608,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

So cool Joss Stone blows her top over mystery album delay

She's renowned for her cool style, but soul star Joss Stone has been left smouldering with anger by a mysterious delay to the release of her new album.

Grammy-winner Joss, 21, recorded Colour Me Free, her fourth studio album, last spring and it was due to hit the shelves next month.

But EMI has now delayed the release of the long-awaited work until at least July – and there are fears the cash-strapped record label may delay it still further.

‘They were supposed to be launching the album in April but now they’ve postponed it until July,’ Joss told me during the Fortune Forum Summit charity event at the Dorchester Hotel last week, where she performed her new work to an audience of the super-rich.

‘I just don’t know what’s happening with it – they really need to pull their finger out.

‘I’ve worked very hard on this record and I don’t know what the plans are until EMI confirm a release date.

‘There’s a world tour planned and everything is in their hands. I really don’t know what is going on.’

Last week, I revealed that Joss – who two years ago sang barefoot to a worldwide audience of millions during the Grammys – has now been reduced to playing material from the new album at ‘intimate’ venues across the country. These include Dover Town Hall which, with a capacity of just 500, is more used to hosting bingo and birthday parties.

Joss’s problems with EMI also surfaced when one of her backing singers tried to drum up interest in the new album. Writing on Stone’s official website, vocalist Ellison Kendricks said: ‘We need all of you to write to Joss’s label, EMI, and ask about her new CD.’

Joss suffered a further setback when her band’s guitarist walked out mid-set two weeks ago.

EMI was unavailable for comment.

:o that sucks!! Was really excited for this..!

She should get a new label, but she recorded this with EMI, so I think she'll have to stick with them..?
