Posted January 24, 200916 yr I feel we need a little bit more discussion here so im starting this. It's a thread to discuss how you would handled the Sats debut era? Would you have relesead If This Is Love first? Would you have relesead the album after just 1 single? Would you have included one of the b-sides on the album? etc I'll do mine later but im looking forward to seeing some of yours (not really but lets pretend i am)
January 24, 200916 yr Ooh I love this! And I'm choosing to believe you are interested :P I'd have the singles in this order: 1. Up 2. Work 3. Issues 4. Keep Her Album release: November 2008 Album Tracklisting: 1. Up 2. Work 3. Keep Her 4. Issues 5. Chasing Lights 6. Crashing Down 7. If This Is Love 8. Not Good Enough 9. Fall 10. Set Me Off 11. Why Me, Why Now 12. What Am I Gonna Do? 13. Vulnerable B-Side: Lies I'm pretty sure if they'd have released "Up and "Work" as the first two singles, the album would have sold bucketloads. They're the two big hit singles of the album and I have no idea why "If This Is Love" was released at all. I mean, it's one of the worst on the album, for me anyway. Though, I'd imagine they recorded the four they sang on tour much earlier than the rest of the album. There's videos on the site where they're recording "Work" in the studio and I think that was after "If This Is Love" was released. I'd have them release "Up" in July and "Work" in November, I'd imagine it would have been huge over Christmas/New Year. "Issues" in February and "Keep Her" in May.
January 24, 200916 yr I wouldn't have done a thing differently if I'm honest, this has been the perfect launch for them and the people handling it really knew what they were doing.
January 25, 200916 yr Agree entirely (that's a rarity young Alan!). If This Is Love is pretty fabulous too... chorus beats Up's.
January 25, 200916 yr Agree entirely (that's a rarity young Alan!). If This Is Love is pretty fabulous too... chorus beats Up's. I have to disagree. You ask anyone to sing a song by The Saturdays (granted they've only had 3 singles), but I'd guarantee they'd sing "I only go Up, Up". Up is an all around catchy song and, of course, Vanessa's bits are pretty rad. But the chorus played a huge part in the success of the song.

January 25, 200916 yr Author I would personally have had them relesea Up first in July as they did for If This Is Love and then followed by Work in October and the album a week or so later. Issues for a January realese and then Set Me Off in April which would be around the same time as a deluxe edition, which would have all the b-sides and such on it aswell as a few new tracks. No new single as such but you know a way to get even more sales. As you can see no If This Is Love as a single, it was a very good song but when you compare it to most of the album it just makes you think why was it lead single? As you can see i havent changed much since i agree with Aly & Jark that this era has been handled very well and partically a lot better than the recent Girls Aloud & Sugababes project.
January 25, 200916 yr I think releasing the album off the back of 'Up' was the ideal thing to do, as it's probably their strongest track and was such a huge hit, serves as a decent platform, then of course 'Issues' pushed the album back up there.
January 26, 200916 yr i think its been a great start. its better that they keep bettering themselves with each release, than have a massive #1 debut single they never live up to again. UP should have been much bigger than it was, and i would have worked on that but its fine. Issues has now sold 115,000 copies, and the album has top ten status!
January 27, 200916 yr i defs woulda waited till the second single to release the album... as for the b-sides, i wouldn't have put them on the album, coz that gives people less of an incentive to actually buy the album, coz its on the single... Hmmm. single releases... thats a toughy, coz its all about releasing the right track at the right time.... so i just dont know, especially seeing as i'm not 100% familiar with the UK market.. haha, i think like this about every cd i buy, i guess it's coz i'm studying a Bachelor of Business (Music Industry) at Uni! :P Coz i wanna work in Artist Management, Promotions/Publicity or on a TV show/at a tv station handling the licensing of music :D Edited January 27, 200916 yr by MelissaSaturday

'Up' was a massive hit, and by far surprassed everyone's expectations, what more would you want from it? i defs woulda waited till the second single to release the album... They did do that. :P
January 28, 200916 yr 'Up' was a massive hit, and by far surprassed everyone's expectations, what more would you want from it? i just mean, if i could have done anything to get to Up to number one i would av done it as it deserved #1! proud of its success nevertheless
January 28, 200916 yr Author Im still slightly confused as to how Up only go to #5. It was something like #2 on I-Tunes and was something like #2 on physicals as well so how did it end up at #5.
January 28, 200916 yr They did do that. :P  haha they did.... never mind me then  I was talking to a mate at the same time about something similar
