Posted June 15, 200619 yr Firstly, it is a well known FACT that Crouch is a bad finisher, he can barely score a header FFS. But the ball allways seems to land on his head when there's a free-kick. Like he has some magnet on his head. He showed his quality (lack of) today, especially when he attempted that diabolichle volley from about 4 yards out which went about 1o yards wide. He also is pretty slow and I don't know why Owen was brought off instead of Crouch as Owen is faster, and CAN finish. Yes, Crouch scored a goal, so what ? Of course I'm glad he did but it takes him about 14 chances to convert one of them; Owen is one of the best finishers in the world and if he'd of had those cances I'm pretty sure he'd of scored from one of them although Owen DID play pretty poorly, but who didn't ? Oh and I'm tired of people mention his 'fancy flicks' wow, he has an okay first touch but a fancy flick isn't going to win the world cup I'm afraid. Why oh why didn't Sven bring Defoe instead ? :(
June 15, 200619 yr He should be there. The fact is is that he's an IMPACT player. He should play for the last quarter of the game, not the WHOLE DAMN THING!!!
June 15, 200619 yr Author Why should he be there, because he's tall ? That's the only reason Sven picked him; as he's tall and can win header. Yet again Sven proves what a prize TWAT he is.
June 15, 200619 yr He should be there because he makes an impact as a SUB., He proved against Argentina and Uraguay that if you use him correctly he's a valuable asset. He hasn't been used correctly so far!
June 15, 200619 yr Crouch is there because he's different. He is a menace to defenders, although he shouldn't start games IMO, just come on as a sub.

June 15, 200619 yr I frankly thought it was hilarious when he tried to take that ball on the volley in the first half and totally and utterly sconed it about yard wide rather than take his time, chest it down and then attempt a shot.... The likes of Ronaldinho, Ronaldo or Zidane have the skill to do somthing like that, Crouch does not... The problem England has is that they believe their own hype and bullsh!t and actually think they're Brazil or summat, and that is why it took them over 80 Bloody minutes to put in the first goal when they should have put the match out of Trinidad's reach in the first half easily.... I'm not impressed by England at all - a fortunate own goal in the first game and being held very convincingly by supposed 'pushovers' Trinidad for over 80 minutes (and almost embarrassed by them at at least one point....). My fave team so far are the Czechs... Strong, skilful, elegant football the way it should be played... They damn well should have won Euro 2002 and they know it, and are clearly wanting to make up for it....
June 15, 200619 yr It was impossible to break T&T down in the first half though. The only players that could have made a break were the midfielders, and they couldn't strike the ball right. Granted though Crouch is not a skillful as Ronaldinhio by any strech of the imagination but he's a far superior to Ronaldo ATM.
June 15, 200619 yr Granted though Crouch is not a skillful as Ronaldinhio by any strech of the imagination but he's a far superior to Ronaldo ATM. Ronnie's in a bit of a slump, granted, but in his footballing life he has achieved things that Crouch never ever will, so if you ask me Ronnie's slump is very much 'at the moment' as you say....
June 15, 200619 yr 6 goals in 9 games for Crouch now, he may be a lanky pile of $h!t but he knows where the net is
June 15, 200619 yr Author 6 goals in 9 games for Crouch now, he may be a lanky pile of $h!t but he knows where the net is Ok THEN ... 1 - Trinidad & Tobago 3 - Jamaica - Also misses a penalty 1 - Hungary 1 - Uruguay Hardly WORLD BEATERS.

To be fair though, comparing the Czech Republic with England at this stage is quite a flat comparison. England have played two relatively defensive sides who are hard to penetrate. They rely on the long ball to Crouch and Owen, and when you've got a solid defence driving against you the only option is for them give the midfielders a go at scoring. Granted, Gerrard and Lampard usually THRIVE in this role but neither have looked particularly thrilling in the two matches. The Czechs on the other hand have played and, fair play to them, hammered the USA. But the difference is, they played the USA who are an attacking team themself and when two attacking teams come head to head it's basically just a stand-off to see which is the more consistent, pushing and overall stronger team. This was evidentally the Czechs seen as they hammered America.
June 15, 200619 yr 6 goals in 9 games for Crouch now, he may be a lanky pile of $h!t but he knows where the net is The guy's got no skill or flair (which is patently obvious by that disastrous volley he attempted), he's just a bloody head ffs....
June 15, 200619 yr Ok THEN ... 1 - Trinidad & Tobago 3 - Jamaica - Also misses a penalty 1 - Hungary 1 - Uruguay Hardly WORLD BEATERS. No they ain't world beaters, but England very rarely play world beaters, apart from in major tournaments. Crouch didn't score against the last "big" team w eplayed but without him we'd have been beaten.
June 15, 200619 yr Ok THEN ... 1 - Trinidad & Tobago 3 - Jamaica - Also misses a penalty 1 - Hungary 1 - Uruguay Hardly WORLD BEATERS. Exactly. It's like Man Utd playing against Sunday league teams really innit...?
June 15, 200619 yr Ok THEN ... 1 - Trinidad & Tobago 3 - Jamaica - Also misses a penalty 1 - Hungary 1 - Uruguay Hardly WORLD BEATERS. I agree with that, not really been tested against world class countries, but its tough to choose a world class country at the moment.
June 15, 200619 yr To be fair though I believe Sven's done the best thing with Crouch. He's tested him against lower teams such as Jamaica in which Crouch will, more times than not, score against. Crouch is a player who MAJORLY relies on confidence (which is highlighted by his start to his tenure at Anfield) and this is the best way to build his confidence. In the process we are also building the morale of the English people and fans up. Sure it may be lulling is into a false sense of security but at the moment, it's the best thing that Crouchy needs.
June 15, 200619 yr In 1966 England ended up playing a striker who went through a 16 game dry spell for his club (West Ham) that season ahead of their star striker (Jimmy Greaves) of the previous 7/8 years who was recovering from injury but was clearly not fit enough come the 1966 World Cup. But what did reserve striker Geoff Hurst do in the tournament & in the final? Also when England won the World Cup we played poorly until we met the favourites in the Semi-Finals (Portugal) - we are due to meet the favourites (Brazil) in this tournament's Semi Finals!
June 15, 200619 yr He's far superior to Ronaldo ATM.  Dear lord Crouch is an embarrassment to just about every England supporter and couldn't hit a barn door  He is useless :arrr:
