For anyone who is familiar with what I do, for the past three years I have compiled a list of my 40 favourite singles and my 15 favourite albums from the previous year.

Forget the biggest sellers of the year, never mind who sold the most copies because sales (in my opinion) never reflect quality and so this chart looks back at the year of 2008 based on the music that was important to me and the records that made 2008!!!!

The chart countdown will begin on Thursday morning, around 10am. I am hoping to post the entire chart, but if not I can guarantee the first half of the chart from 40 to 21 and then the rest of the chart will follow next Monday but for now we'll have to wait and see what happens!!

In the mean time, I thought I'd post some of the contenders challenging for the number one spot and hoping to join last year's number one single from Robyn and the number one album from The Enemy. Below are ten sinlges all hoping to enter the hall of fame for the number one singles but which, if any, of these could do it. If you want to play along and make your predictions that would be great and I would appreciate the input from everyone on the site!!

Singles Chart Contenders:

Could it be one of these singles that joins 'With Every Heartbeat' in the hall of fame????

Chicane featuring Natasha Bedingfield - Bruised Water

Leona Lewis - Run

The Sparks - This Town Ain't Big Enough For The Both Of Us

Mark Brown featuring Sarah Cracknell - The Journey Continues

Dizzee Rascal, Calvin Harris and Chrome - Dance Wiv Me

M.I.A - Paper Planes

Sugababes - Girls

Mutya Buena - B Boy Baby

The Last Shadow Puppets - The Age Of The Understatement

Sam Sparro - Black And Gold

Album Chart Contenders:

Could one of these albums join 'We'll Live And Die In These Towns' in the hall of fame????

Sugababes - Catfights And Spotlights

Glasvegas - Glasvegas

Girls Aloud - Out Of Control

The Killers - Day And Age

Kylie Minogue - X

If you would like to make a prediction from any of these than please feel free to leave any comments, otherwise, be here from Thursday morning when the chart will get underway and I will reveal my top 40 singles and top 15 albums chart live on Buzzjack!!!!!

Let's get into the top 40 with 40 to 31......

Essentially a very British start to the chart with all 10 acts coming from this country.

Just a few quick notes, Alexandra's appearence in the chart was very last minute and the number 33 record was between 5 records but I chose 'Hallelujah' because it was the last single I sold at Woolworths (R.I.P) over the Christmas period and I have fond memories of the record and my time there. Also orthy of a mention, it is the FIRST time the X Factor winner has charted with the Christmas number one!!!!

Let me know what you think of the chart, is there something missing and do you agree with what I've charted, please let me know, I'd love to see what you're all thinking, the top 30 continues with our first American act in the countdown...

And that was the chart from 30 to 21 and as you can see a little bit varied in terms of musical style!!!!

Firstly, welcome to P!nk who charts for the very first time with 'So What', a great song to shout at your ex, and I should know!!!!

Special notice goes to Glasvegas who debut with the first of two entries from their debut album at 25, with one more entry to go could they get the number one spot, find out very soon indeed.

The album chart is next but before all that, another quick mention, this time to the Sugababes who fair slightly worse than this time 12 months ago when they had 2 singles in the top 10. 'Denial' is the highest and only other appearence from the 'Babes this year which may come as a surprise but here's hoping next year is better, but number 21 is still a great position for a track from a 2007 album!!!!

The chart continues as we break into the top 20 with music still to come from Dizzee Rascal, Glasvegas, Leona Lewis and Chicane but first of all, we have to take a break for the album chart.........

This is now last years top 10 looked:

10 - Chase and Status featuring Plan B - Pieces

The perfect song to get over a break up, this was the debut single from one of the biggest acts in the UK drum and bass scene and was the lead single to be taken from the debut album 'More Than Alot'. A big record at Radio 1 championed by the likes of Zane Lowe, Annie Mac and Jo Whiley, this record was a relative flop commercially but deserves its high placing in end of year chart!!!!

Let's find out what is at number 9, how I miss my hometown......

9 - Adele - Hometown Glory

This was the record that launched Adele Atkins into the public's consciousness. Adele scored 4 top 40 hits from the debut album '19' and also started 2008 in style by bagging herself the Critic's Choice BRIT award. This track was first released as a limited edition vinyl before getting a full re-release in the summer of 2008, and got its well deserved top 20 placing.

If you missed any of today's chart the recap will follow ahead of the reveal of my number so don't go anywhere.

On with the top 10 and at 8, all I can say is the journey is almost at an end, well nearly......

8 - Mark Brown featuring Sarah Cracknell - The Journey Continues

Yes, it is THAT song from the Lloyds TSB advert and was a massive record on my chart, spending a total of 8 weeks at number one, a total still to be bettered. Another record it set, but has since been matched, was its climb to number one, when the track climbed 20 to 1 in my second chart of 2008. Recieved massive Radio 1 support from Pete Tong, Scott Mills and Jo Whiley and featured haunting vocals from the Saint Etienne lead singer.

The next single at number 7 was taken from an album that won an award previously given to the likes of Klaxons, Arctic Monkeys and M People (!!)

Can you guess who it is yet????

7 - Elbow - One Day Like This

From the Mercury Award winning album 'The Seldom Seen Kid', this was Elbow's second single release which deserved more than charting at 39 and 35 upon its two entries in the chart. But it is their first ever entry on my singles chart so that should cheer them up a little bit!!!!

Official Chart Position: 35

6 - Guru Josh Project - Infinity 2008

First released in 1990, this record got to number 5. Fast forward 18 years and we have one of the biggest dance records of the year and peaked at number on downloads alone in October 2008.
