Posted January 27, 200916 yr Oasis nominated for seven NME Awards 07:23 | Tuesday January 27, 2009 By Ben Cardew Oasis and Kings Of Leon lead the nominations for the 2009 NME Awards. Oasis have seven nods, in categories including best British band, best live band and best album. Kings Of Leon are nominated for best international band, best live band, best track and best album. Winners will be announced at the event on February 25th at Brixton Academy in London. The 2009 NME Godlike Genius winner is the Cure. NME editor Conor McNicholas says, "Its clear that the NME readers' love affair with Oasis continues apace. Their latest album has proved they can play to their established fans and still encourage a new generation of Liam and Noels. “But Oasis and the rest of the UK acts have got some stiff competition from our US cousins. Kings of Leon, MGMT and Vampire Weekend prove that the American music scene is on fire right now and the Obama-effect is helping us fall for American glamour all over again.” The full nominations are: BEST BRITISH BAND supported by Shockwaves Oasis Bloc Party Radiohead Muse Last Shadow Puppets BEST INTERNATIONAL BAND supported by 4music Kings of Leon The Killers MGMT Vampire Weekend Chrystal Castles BEST SOLO ARTIST Ladyhawke Jay-Z Laura Marling Lightspeed Champion Pete Doherty BEST NEW BAND supported by Bench Vampire Weekend MGMT Glasvegas Late Of The Pier White Lies BEST LIVE BAND supported by Red Stripe Radiohead Oasis The Killers Muse Kings Of Leon BEST ALBUM supported by HMV Kings Of Leon The Killers Glasvegas Oasis Bloc Party BEST TRACK supported by NME Radio Vampire Weekend - A-Punk Last Shadow Puppets - Age Of The Understanding Kings of Leon - Sex On Fire The Ting Tings - That's Not My Name MGMT - Time To Pretend BEST VIDEO supported by NME TV Late Of The Pier - Heartbeat Last Shadow Puppets - My Mistakes Were Made For You Radiohead - House of Cards Vampire Weekend - A-Punk Oasis - Shock Of The Lightning BEST LIVE EVENT T in the Park Glastonbury Isle Of Wight Festival Reading and Leeds V Festival BEST TV Skins Mighty Boosh Gavin & Stacey Nevermind the Buzzcocks IT Crowd BEST FILM Quantum of Solace Wall.E Dark Knight Twilight Juno BEST DANCE FLOOR FILLER Bloc Party - Mercury Dizzee Rascal & Calvin Harris - Dance Wiv Me Crystal Castles - Courtship Dating Friendly Fires - Paris Late Of The Pier - Bathroom Gurgle BEST DVD Foo Fighters Live At Wembley Rolling Stones - Shine A Light Kaiser Chiefs - Live From Elland Road Arctic Monkeys At The Apollo Muse - HAARP HERO OF THE YEAR Brandon flowers Noel Gallagher Barack Obama Noel Fielding Alex Turner VILLAIN OF THE YEAR Amy Winehouse George Bush Pete Doherty John McCain Gordon Brown BEST DRESSED Brandon Flowers Noel Fielding Alexa Chung Alex Turner Noel Gallagher WORST DRESSED Amy Winehouse Pete Doherty Katy Perry Brandon Flowers Johnny Borrell WORST ALBUM The Jonas Brothers - A Little Bit Longer Coldplay - Viva La Vida Britney Spears - Circus Scouting For Girls - Scouting For Girls Razorlight - Slipway Fires WORST BAND Tokio Hotel Jonas Brothers Scouting for Girls Fall Out Boy Oasis SEXIEST MALE Carl Barat Keith Murray Matt Bellamy Pete Doherty Miles Kane SEXIEST FEMALE Hayley Williams Kate Jackson Alison Mosshart Lykke Li Stephanie Dosen BEST WEBSITE Facebook YouTube Last FM Myspace Bebo BEST VENUE o2 Arena London Astoria Glasgow Barrowlands Brixton Academy Manchester Academy BEST ALBUM ARTWORK We Are Scientists – Brian Thrust Mastery Muse – Haarp The Cure – 4:13 Dream Guillemots – Red The Killers – Day & Age BEST BAND BLOG Noel Gallagher / Oasis Little boots Lightspeed Champion Radiohead Foals
