Mum yields Delta reins

LEA Goodrem is no longer in charge of daughter Delta's music career after the 21-year-old signed with the international Modest Entertainment management team.

Delta Goodrem says the move means she and Lea "can enjoy being mother and daughter".

Delta, in Los Angeles writing songs for her third album, said it was a mutual decision for her mother to step back from managing her music career.

Lea will remain involved in her daughter's career, overseeing the Delta By Annabella lingerie range and her charity commitments.

"Mum and I will always be a team and I respect and love her, and we still talk about everything," Delta said. "We are mother and daughter, and feel that is important."

Lea took the reins of her daughter's career after the family fell out with Glenn Wheatley, also John Farnham's manager, who helped nurture the star as a teenager.

Despite speculation of a tug-of-war for Delta's career and affections between her mother and boyfriend, Irish singer Brian McFadden, Delta insists she made her own decision on the new management team.

Modest is a London-based agency run by industry heavyweights and ex-record company heads Richard Griffiths and Harry Magee. They also manage McFadden and British R & B star Lemar.

Delta's Australian manager will be former Sony executive Jo Grogan, who has worked closely with the singer since she was given a record deal six years ago.

"I think I'm a smart enough girl to make my own decisions," Delta said of the alleged boyfriend-mother friction. "Brian is the love of my life and he is so supportive of me, as is my mum.

"But he and I are separate artists working on our own projects, and while we are partners and work in the same industry, it doesn't mean we're going to agree on everything."

Delta will return to Australia next month after launching her career in Japan with a compilation of her first two albums, Innocent Eyes and Mistaken Identity.

Lea said yesterday she couldn't wait to catch up with her daughter face to face. "I couldn't live out of a suitcase any more," she said of the management split.

I'm really not too sure what to think! I guess it's good that for the next album we'll get some promo and they seem quite UK orientated, so hopefully something here sooner rather than later...

If she's with Modest she'll be over here a lot more

Hooray, we'll have a new album please :D
