Plans to commemorate The Beatles's famous rooftop gig on Saville Row have been scuppered by the police and local council.

Celebrations had been planned to mark the 40th anniversary of the group's famous concert on top of their Apple building in central London.

Tribute band The Bootleg Beatles were expected to recreate the scene in support of the Peace One Day charity, but police and council officials objected over safety concerns, reports the Daily Star.

The Metropolitan Police stopped the original 1969 performance by cutting the power to the building.
