It all just depends. Some people might let you in, some people might not. I was getting into 18s when I was 16 but then when I was nearly 18 they asked for ID (I got in anyways but thats besides the point)

Halloween is a reimagining of the 1978 film of the same name. It is to be released on October 19 in Ireland and the UK, just in time for haloween.

Anyone looking forward to this? Think it will live up to the other 8 films?

I Downloaded a "Work Print" of this, apart from a few annoying niggles, the film is dark, edgy and really what a Horror Film should be about... It completely obliterates the sh!tty sequels out of the water, but isn't quite up to Carpenter's original vision, but then how could any film of this kind really be...? The original "Halloween" was a completely seminal and incredibly influential piece of film-making, a classic of its time.

Rob Zombie's re-imagining does work for the most part, especially in the first 40 minutes which act as a kind of prologue, he wants us to see Michael as a psychologically damaged child from an abusive, dysfunctional background, as opposed to the inhuman monster that he will become. There's a fair bit more involving Dr Loomis (played extremely well by Malcolm McDowell, a truly excellent piece of casting and a more than adequate surrogate for the great Donald Pleasance) and Michael together as doctor and patient, and I feel that this really adds to the whole "Halloween" mythos...

The last hour or so doesn't quite match up to the first 40 minutes though, but that is to be expected, it basically just follows the plot of the original from there - disposable teens being bumped off in a variety of nasty ways... My biggest gripe with the film is the changes in Laurie Strode's character - in the original, she seemed a hell of a lot more intelligent and resourceful, here, she just comes off like some silly, annoying little bint screaming her head off, you actually want Michael to kill her, you never wanted Mike to kill the original Laurie.. Scout Taylor Compton is no kind of replacement for Jamie Lee Curtis, and this is the film's one flaw really, you basically just dont care much about the fate of the teenagers, whereas Carpenter did make you care a lot more about his characters....

All in all though, I would say that in terms of "remakes", this one does stand quite a bit apart from pretty much all the others - Rob Zombie does know the genre, and in terms of atmosphere, builds up some great tension, it's just a shame he didn't work a bit more on some of the characters, making Michael more human seems to have come at the expense of making Laurie less human and less well-rounded, pretty sure that wasn't his intent.... Of course, the "Work Print" that I saw was an incomplete version, new scenes were added and apparently the cinema version has a different ending, so maybe I'm just not seeing the full picture....

So, it's a 7/10 from me until I see the "bigger picture"......

And, by the way, UK release date is 28th September according to IMDb.... Truly stupid if you ask me, they should've waited a month.....

Sounds good then, ive only seen a few remakes and im sure this will be much better than those.

I think that was the original release date, but obv. they though what you and i do and have sensibly changed the date much closer to actual Haloween.

I cant wait, but I'm not old enough :( I'll watch it off TVLinks or something :D

I've seen it advertised on buses saying it's released on the 28th September

Pft 18? :( Dam. The origials are quite good (well some of them, a few of the sequals are poor) but Im looking foward to this. ^_^
Oh, I am very suprised it is meant to be good (going by Grimply's post), as I expected it to be just another awful remake. I never get why such films are released over a month before Halloween. It makes no sence at all.

No, it doesn't does it...? I just dunno why they couldn't have waited a while, have some advanced previews around the country actually ON Halloween night itself (would encourage people to go in fancy dress...) with a big Halloween-themed Press premiere at Leicester Square to generate interest in the film (which falls on a Wednesday this year..), and have the actual release date on Friday 2nd November.... Sh!t, someone should hire me as a PR consultant.....

Stop already!!! Do something DIFFERENT!!! Don't think I'll be bothering...

They did too many films to start with, I got bored.

To be fair to Rob Zombie though Claire, he has actually done something a bit different with it, the guy really knows the genre and knows how to put a different spin on things....

Why don't people put a different spin on a different film?

Yep, I wanna see it.

Did Rob Zombie direct it? If he did, you just KNOW how violent it's gonna be

Downloaded this the other night and I think I saw the version that Scott has seen because I pretty much agree with his opinion of the film. The first hour (give or take) was excellent, when they were assessing him and stuff and then it pretty much morphed into the all the other films with him just killing everyone. Slightly disappointing, but like Scott said you can't really compare it to the original...
I watched the original the other day, it's very freaky, especially that bit where when he kills Bob (I think he's called, him with the glasses) and he impailes him on the wall, and he stands there watching him die for about 20 seconds, it's quite creepy
I wasnt expecing much from this but I actually really liked it (got it on copy lol) . The first hour our so is prob the best. Once he gets out it kinda went downhill for me. Just turned into another slasher flick. The the lead female in my opinion was just terrible

Totally mate... It just seemed like Rob Zombie just lost faith in the totally different, rather individualistic vision he set up in the first hour and then just decided to go down the usual, tired "slasher" path.... And the lead female actress is sure as hell no Jamie Lee, woeful miscasting there... Mind you, not that she really had much to work with in the script or character department if we're being totally honest.....

Watched this last night and loved it! Have not watched the orignal though so cant really compare, how many other Halloween films are there? And is Rob Zombie going to be remaking them all?
