Yan's German Chart Comments - Issue Date 6.02

So after two weeks of several new entries in the top 10, the German singles chart has once again entered into stagnation. The new week sees not only four  new entries in the entire top 100, but also six songs, including the numbers 1 to 4, keeping their previous positions in the top 10.

That leaves us to the biggest new hit of the week at #17. After storming the UK charts at #1, Lily Allen's comeback single not only entered the German top 20 but made her star for the first time in the country. The singles from Allen's first album may have been popular in her native country, but in Germany only "Smile" managed to reach the miserable #67. Of course, I'm sure that Lily Allen is now massively covered by German media and this time around even VIVA supports her.

A place below Lily Allen we find the first single from the "Hands on Scooter" project, which involves the remaking of famous songs of Scooter by currently hot German acts. "Beweg dein Arsch" samples "Move Your Ass", Scooter's second single ever dating from 1995, with a peak position #3. 2009 marks the 15th anniversary of the German band, whose consistency in making hits is may I say unbeatable.

The third new entry of the week comes from Oasis, who (and that's the reason I love the German charts :P ) have had only one real hit in Germany. You know what it is.

The top of the album chart this week is identical to the UK one, with Bruce Springsteen and Franz Ferdinand latest offerings entering at #1 and #2, respectively. This is the fourth number of Bruce, after "Born in the U.S.A. " in 84, "The Rising " in 2002 and "Devils & Dust" in 2005. As long as the amazing Franz Ferdinand are concerned, "Tonight" reaches the same position as their previous album "You Could Have It So Much Better".
