March 9, 200916 yr Author http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/entertainment...86908-21184138/ U2 announce summer concert at Hampden Park Mar 9 2009 By Garry McConnachie IRISH supergroup U2 have revealed they will play Hampden Park in Glasgow this summer as part of their 360 Degree Tour. Bono and co will perform at the national stadium on August 18 during the UK-leg of the tour that will also take in another 13 cities across Europe. The announcement was made in the same week their 12th studio album, No Line On The Horizon, hit No.1 in the UK album chart. Long-time band show director Willie Williams has again worked with architect Mark Fisher (who designed the sets for PopMart, Elevation and Vertigo tours) to create an innovative 360 degree design that gives unobstructed views for the audience. U2 manager Paul McGuinness said: "U2 has always been at their best when surrounded by their audience - this staging takes a giant leap forward. "With 85 per cent of the tickets priced at less than £86, general admission floor tickets at £49 and at least 10,000 tickets at every venue costing around £27, we have worked hard to ensure U2 fans can purchase a great-priced ticket with a guaranteed great view." As they have been known to do in the past, the Irish group will welcome a number of various support acts on the tour including Glasvegas, Elbow, Kaiser Chiefs, Snow Patrol and Black Eyed Peas with additional artists to be announced. Ticket availability can be accessed via the band's microsite at U2.com while existing members of that site will have the chance to snap up tickets in advance of the public sale.
March 9, 200916 yr Author http://www.walesonline.co.uk/showbiz-and-l...91466-23095793/ Record crowd expected for U2’s Millennium Stadium concert Mar 9 2009 South Wales Echo ROCK giants U2 are expected today to confirm plans for the biggest show ever to hit the Millennium Stadium. The enormous gig is set to attract the stadium’s largest-ever crowd, with the Irish rockers, pictured, expected to attract 85,000 fans for the show on Saturday, August 22. Prices for the tour will begin at just £21. The capacity is expected to be extended by putting the stage in the centre of the pitch, allowing an extra 10,000 fans to stand. The Millennium Stadium gig will be one of a host of record-breaking shows, including a 95,000 capacity homecoming concert at Croke Park in Dublin on July 24, 25 and 26. U2 are expected to top the 100,000 attendance mark when they play London’s Wembley Stadium, in a show poised to become Britain’s highest-grossing concert of all time. Guitarist The Edge said: “Where we’re taking our production has never been seen before by anybody and that’s an exciting thing to be able to say. It’s hard to come up with something fundamentally different, but we have. “The songs we’ve been playing in rehearsal are sounding fantastic, so that’s got everyone really fired up. “We’re really excited about the idea of going on the road with this album.” Manager Paul McGuinness pulled no punches regarding the scale of the tour. He said: “This is going to be a big tour, the biggest shows we’ve ever done.” The Kiss The Future tour will see the band performing in the centre of stadiums with the crowd surrounding them, and will also feature a giant cylindrical video screen. This increases the capacity of the stadium and allows for a wider range of ticket pricing, meaning some hard-up fans will still be able to snap up bargain tickets. The European leg of the tour will kick off at Barcelona’s Nou Camp stadium on June 30 and take in shows in Paris, Nice, Amsterdam, Berlin and Dublin, before the European leg comes to an end at the Millennium Stadium. The tour will see them visit Europe, North America and South America over a period of more than 15 months. It will be the second time the band have played the Millennium Stadium, following their 2005 gig as part of their Vertigo world tour. The band’s 12th studio album No Line on the Horizon went straight to the top of the album chart last night and they will release another album, Songs of the Ascent, before the end of 2009. Promotions for the new album began with a surprise gig on top of BBC television studios in White City, London. U2 are coming to Wales on August 22, the band announced today. The 2009 U2360º World Tour includes four dates in the UK: Fri August 14 - London, Wembley Stadium Tue August 18 - Glasgow, Hampden Park Thu August 20 - Sheffield, Don Valley Stadium Sat August 22 - Cardiff, Millennium Stadium. The band's new album 'No Line On The Horizon' entered the UK chart at number one yesterday. For more details see www.U2.com
