February 10, 200916 yr Actually she hasn't "dominated" really! Duffy and Adele had success as well and got rewarded for it here! Imo they're also both much much better with Adele being my favourite! She's done very well but she's not the 'biggest export from britain in years' when you look at how huge Coldplay are! Come on! Even a lot of her fans have said her album isn't really very good  Plus she didn't really contribute to it so what do you think she should get an award for exactly? I could really careless about awards. It doesn't make her less of an artist. IMO, album sales are what matters most. & over 6 mil in just 14 months is pretty amazing for someone who came from X Factor. I would've thought Best Female Pop Vocal Performance would go to LL though. Don't expect her to win anything from Brits either. But you can't compare Coldplay's success to LL's. LL 's debut just came about little over ago while Coldplay has been out for how long? Edited February 10, 200916 yr by runaway

She was snubbed.

A lot of fans mean that she's capable of a lot more with the album and I'm one of them lol. I think it's a very good album, but I know it's not the best for her potential and she did contribute to the album... she has two writing credits (as well as B-sides). I know it's not a lot compared to Duffy and Adele's material, but it shows writing credibility. I could really careless about awards. It doesn't make her less of an artist. I agree :P It was the Simon Cowell snub IMO and also the fact that the whole soul thing is very big at the moment since Amy Winehouse's Grammy wins.
February 10, 200916 yr A terrible shame Leona didnt get anything but very pleased for Duffy, Adele & Jennifer Hudson

LOL, how can you say she didn't dominate? #1 on the Hot 100 & album charts, a huge #1 on radio (which broke the record for number of spins in any one week) and a secondary consistent radio hit (BIT). Compared to Leona, Duffy and Adele flopped big time in my home country. Leona was robbed. We thought it might happen, but she should've been given Pop Vocal Performance. Spirit was a little tedious at times, but Duffy's was a snoozefest. The only reason she won is because of her writing credits. The Grammys need to realise all of these artists who have billons of writing credits are not the driving force behind the music industry. That's not where the money is (in general terms). I'm glad Alicia won Female R&B Vocal Performance. As I Am was robbed of album of the year. I'm shocked Jazmine was snubbed. She was up for 5, and had a lot of critical acclaim (more-so than a lot of the other nominees). That was the *real* shocker, based on what the board like to vote for. Just when I thought the music industry had gone as low as it could, out pops this statement of sheer terror.

I have to say your comments represent everything wrong with music. If you think music should be dominated by the Simon Cowell's of the world telling an artist what to record, and think an artist deserves to win despite having second rate material & lazy covers on her debut album then their is something wrong with you IMHO. The clue is in the word artist. If the award was for best a product then she may deserve to win. But as numerous great British artists have pointed out including most memorably Sir Paul McCartney "Simon Cowell and The X-Factor is musical cancer as it stamps out the lifeblood of music..... originality." then those voters were right to snub her. Whilst Leona Lewis remains Simon Cowell's puppet then Leona Lewis can expect & deserves to win no awards despite her unquestionable vocal talent. Compared to Duffy (managed by The Smiths former Head of A&R at Rough Trade, and co-writing an entirely original album with former Catatonia & Suede songwriters/guitarists/producers) & Adele (signed to the ultra credible XL label responsible for The Prodigy, Radiohead, Basement Jaxx, White Stripes, M.I.A., Beck, Dizzee Rascal, The Raconteurs, Sigur Ros, Vampire Weekend...) then it is very easy to see why fellow musicians, songwriters, producers & artists would snub Leona. In short the reason why the Grammys celebrated their 51st anniversary is because they DO realise what their lifeblood is .... artists who have billions of writing credits recording new original material are the driving force behind the music industry.
February 11, 200916 yr Coldplay got awards  btw was Robyn nominated? She was nominated for best dance album (!?) but lost to Daft Punk. Ugh I effing hate the Grammy's tbh and all other Award Shows. They're all awful tbh. Half of the people nominated didn't even deserve it. All of the main categories are filled with awful nominations who have hardly got any critical acclaim whatsoever which makes me wonder exactly who picks these awful nominees? Adele, Coldplay, Sara Bareilles, Leona Lewis, Jason Mraz, Ne-Yo, Jonas Brothers, and Duffy? The only ones I can spot in the four main categories who have actually been universally acclaimed are M.I.A., Lil Wayne, and Estelle's American Boy...none of which won the main categories (glad to see Lil Wayne / Estelle win some other awards though - American Boy was mah summer jam).
February 11, 200916 yr "Whoah, wait a minute - you're suggesting awards should be given to the artists who make the most money? Just when I thought the music industry had gone as low as it could, out pops this statement of sheer terror." Take my comment for what it's worth. Try not to exaggerate this. I don't think awards should be handed to artists just because they write their material, especially if it's not that great. There should be an even playing field. I have to say your comments represent everything wrong with music. All I'm saying is don't award an artist just because they write their material. Duffy had a few good tracks, but her record was a bit lame. Duffy had just as many boring tracks on her album as Leona did. She only had a tad more critical acclaim than Leona had for her album stateside. Bleeding Love was a great track. Good lyrics, with some nice production from Tedder. It was huge, and deserved to be recognised whether she wrote it or not.
