Posted June 14, 200817 yr Former Blink-182 man speaks about My Chemical Romance and 'emo' suicide Former Blink 182 guitarist and vocalist Tom DeLonge has spoken out about the recent controversy surrounding My Chemical Romance and their suggested links with 'emo' suicides. DeLonge told Buzznet that he had experienced similar controversy while in his former band. He defended My Chemical Romance, saying there was nothing abnormal about the content of their lyrics. "The same sort of thing [being blamed for fans' behaviour] happened to me with Blink," he said, "so I can understand what it's like to be a part of something like that. "We had a victim of the Columbine shootings take his life with our song on repeat. You kinda go through these situations where you blame yourself, but you can't. "You have no idea who these people are. And My Chemical Romance, they spend a lot of time singing about coming together. There's ingredients of rebellion and angst, but what band doesn't have that when you're young?" http://www.nme.com/news/blink-182/37279
June 23, 200817 yr That's ridiculous. I also hate MCR fans being called "emos." Arghh. I'm not emo, and I know of quite a few people who love MCR and are not "emo." But I'm glad Gee is making a stand :] I guess that's just what he's known for. ^_^
June 23, 200817 yr Author That's ridiculous. I also hate MCR fans being called "emos." Arghh. I'm not emo, and I know of quite a few people who love MCR and are not "emo." But I'm glad Gee is making a stand :] I guess that's just what he's known for. ^_^ I completely agree with you, lots of young and older people enjoy their music and I hate it the fans in general are being marked as emo. It's good to see Gee and the guys are getting lots of support from all area's.
June 26, 200817 yr On the night of her death, Hannah had spent the evening at a friend's house ? also an emo and one who had also cut himself, telling his mother: "We're emos, we all do it." Hannah had wanted to sleep over and was upset at having to leave. When they got home, Mrs Bond told Hannah to go to bed, adding that they would discuss the matter in the morning. The teenager turned to her and said: "I feel like killing myself." Breaking down in tears, Mrs Bond told the inquest: "I think I said: 'Don't be so silly ? we'll talk about it in the morning.'" An hour later, Mrs Bond went into her daughter's bedroom at the family home in East Peckham, near Maidstone, and found Hannah's lifeless body hanging from the metal railing of the top bunk. Um...yeah, that would make it partially her mother's fault. This is stupid. I was "emo" before I decided labels are for people who can't find themselves. I was suicidal. Did it have anything to do with MCR? NO. MCR helped me OUT of my depression. I left a nice little comment telling them to do the necessary research before blaming a band for anyone's death. Apparently they haven't heard how Gerard tells the crowd at every show that if they're feeling depressed or suicidal, to find help immediately. Yeah.
