Posted June 16, 200619 yr Is he a legend or not I keep on seeing him in the crowd jeering at his team, he looks so fat and looks obnoxious, unless its me thinking that way. I still hate him for that handball aganist England
June 16, 200619 yr Of course he's a legend. He's one of the most gifted footballers ever. After watching "Linekar meets Maradona" on TV the other week I quite admire him. 18 months ago he was virtually dead. He's now changed his lifestyle completely and is completely healthy.
June 16, 200619 yr As far as I'm concerned, he IS still a legend among Argentinians, not sure the rest of the world though. But as RFC said, he's completely changed his style of life, he looks skinnier and healthier now.

June 16, 200619 yr Yes he is. Onw of the greatest players ever to grace the game. I hate him for what he did to England but meh some things go for you, some things go against you, and the solo goal he scored against England was one of the best goals i've seen in a world cup.

I still hate him for that handball aganist England A typical English attitude, focus on the handball incident and totally forget about the second goal which carved apart the English defence, and was a work of absolute individual genius which the likes of Gary fukkin' Lineker could only dream of; England were never gonna win that game, live with the fact... Maradona, the drug abuse aside, is an absolute football legend, one of the greatest players of all time ever to kick a ball, he more or less single-handedly took his club side, Napoli, to unbelievable heights, without him they crashed and burned.
June 16, 200619 yr Oh, and by the way, you lot better pray you dont meet Argentina, 6-0 against Serbia & Montenegro (who aint exactly slouches, winning their qualifying group ahead of Spain ffs....), the way you lot are playing at the moment, Saviola, Crespo, Messi and Rodriguez will put the Argies into double figures....

Every player would raise there game by 100% because of the history between the two teams and we have the so called physological adavntage over them anyway.

I'm pretty damn sure that the Argies will raise their game as well.... You have NEVER beaten Argentina in a big competition, as long as I've been alive anyway, and against this incredibly strong, inspired Argentinian side who are easily the best in the competition, forget it....

Yes thats true :( . Argentina are one of the best sides in the world cup and I thought they'd falter. I'd still be positive though that we'd beat them if we played them though especially with Rooney back now, who would near to full fitness by the time we would play them if Argentina and England got that far.

There's way too much focus on Rooney, as if he's Roy of the bloody Rovers or summat, he's coming back from a very serious injury, and all it's gonna take is for one of those big Argie defenders to man mark him and frustrate him, and he will do something bloody stupid and get himself sent off, because it's in his nature to just fly off the handle, and the Argies know it.... I'm telling ya, Messi is a man to really watch, much more than Rooney..... Messi has the potential to be the new Maradonna...

He's like Ronaldinhio. He's a great player but Barca make them look better. Messi will become a great player but if we did play the Argies i'm sure John Terry would mark him out of the game. You're right about Rooney though. I could see the Argies using dirty tactics and winiding him up which could end up with Rooney been sent off, although Rooney has been calmed down a bit by Fergie now though.

Mate, Messi came on for 20 minutes today, set up two goals and boshed one in himself....  I wouldn't say he's over-rated. Rooney came on for 20-odd minutes yesterday and did....erm...not very much really..... -_- Barcalona... erm, would they be the ones who won the Champions League then.....?

Messi is an extremley great player with bags of potential but so is Rooney.

June 16, 200619 yr we beat the argies 1-0 back in 2002  I forgot all about that ^_^ . John Motson said some stupid things during that game.

We beat them in the last world cup so unless you're not quite 4 years old...?
June 17, 200619 yr Of course he is a legend Very possibly the BEST player the world has ever seen, what he could do with a ball at his feet was unbelieveable, I am glad that I am old enough to have seen his football career as I doubt I will see a player with his level of genius again, the thread is pointless its like asking "Was Ayrton Senna a great racing driver ?" "Could Donald Bradman bat ?" Maradona has made a few errors of judgement in his personal life but I have never seen a better footballer and I started watching football in 1970
June 17, 200619 yr We beat them in the last world cup so unless you're not quite 4 years old...? Oops, forgot about that, probably because my memories of Ronaldhino making an absolute monkey out of Dave Seaman are so vivid that I forgot about the rather tired and mediocre Argentinian team of '02.......
