Posted June 16, 200619 yr Virgin.net Music news Jacko in charity song storm Michael Jackson has faced more damaging allegations after it was claimed that a charity song he recorded was a ploy to line his own pocket. The singer has decided not to release his charity single 'What More Can I Give' for victims of September 11 and Hurricane Katrina after Fox News claimed he was planning to keep the royalties for himself. According to the US TV station, Jackson planned to donate the proceeds of the CD sales to charity but would retain copyright and take the royalties when the song was played in future. The all-star track featured the likes of Destiny's Child, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Nick Carter and Mya, but will now not see the light of day following the allegations. "Everyone on the CD is supposed to waive their fees too, including the musicians, performers and engineers. But rights to the music remain with him, and he would reap the financial rewards," Fox News entertainment reporter Roger Friedman said. A spokesman for Jacko did not return calls. Discuss:
June 16, 200619 yr I was wondering what the hold-up with this was. It's a shame because I'm sure it would've been big, what with all the HUGE people involved and I was really looking forward to hearing it. However, if Michael Jackson was going to keep the royalties it basically spoils the whole idea that it's for charity - it will continue to line his pockets for as long as it's played and help him out of debt, and that's not the reason people would've bought it.
June 16, 200619 yr The song is now YEARS old so it would have been very odd to release and promote - considering it reflects who was popular in 2002! By the way, somehow I got the mp3 a while back. The song is really bad but if you want it, feel free to PM me and I'll send it.
June 16, 200619 yr That's true actually, it would've been odd to release it so long after the event it's raising money for. It would certainly have hindered it's popularity.
