Posted February 16, 200916 yr Anyone going to give this a try? I think I will ... but usually when we Brits try our take on a successful US series ... it usually goes pear-shaped. Looks like a good cast is involved here. Will tune in next week and give my 'Barry Norman' on it! http://www.itv.com/Drama/copsandcrime/Lawa...er/default.html Norma
February 16, 200916 yr Yeah, i think i might watch this actually if only just for Freema really since i havent watched any of the US series before.
February 17, 200916 yr I've seen ep 1 and its pretty decent. Bradley Walsh really surprised me. :) Hope the series does well in the Monday night slot now - Whitechapel has done very well so theres good potential.
February 17, 200916 yr Has it already aired? It's a shame I missed it. I think the Law & Order spin-off Special Victims Unit is way better though. It's more of a ratings success in comparison to it's parent. I wonder how it'll work over here...

It's more of a ratings success in comparison to it's parent. I wonder how it'll work over here... It doesn't start until next Monday. Bradley Walsh is supposed to be superb in it. I agree about Law & Order SVU - the best of the franchise. I just wish they'd feature the Richard Belzer character John Munch a bit more in it though ... he was brilliant in Homicide, Life on the Street too. I grew up on that show. Belzer is a great actor. His on-screen relationship with Ice-T in SVU is so entertaining. I'm really gutted though. The UK are so far behind in airing the latest season. The US are already half-way through season 10. Noo sorry I've seen a preview DVD - starts next Monday on ITV1 I think so dont panic yet! Thanks, I'll be sure to check it out.
February 17, 200916 yr Author Oh my! I remember that show. I grew up on that show. Belzer is a great actor. His on-screen relationship with Ice-T in SVU is so entertaining. Homicide had probably one of the single, best ever, emotionally charged and gripping episodes of anything I've seen in any show of its kind. The episode where a bloke had been pushed between two carriages of a subway train by some nutter (for fun!!). The whole show consisted of Andre Braugh's character talking to him - and he was literally talking to a dead man as it was the pressure of the two carriages and the shock to his body that was keeping him alive - once they'd separated the carriages there was no way they could save him. Sounds gruesome but it was a truly moving episode. Norma
February 21, 200916 yr Author This Law & Order thing looks to be really good! Harriet Walter is in it too and Bill Paterson ... both brilliant actors. But the ace in the hole looks as though it could be Bradley Walsh ... he really looks the part. Norma
February 23, 200916 yr ^Harriet and Bill are really excellent. Not enough of both of them for my liking though. Kicks off tonight! Just watched ep2 and its even better than ep1. So hard-hitting, thought provoking and emotional, which I didn't expect at all.
February 23, 200916 yr Author After all that I mised it! I was busy under the stairs on the computer doing work I'd brought home with me. I could hear though, that they'd even used the sound effects / transitions from the US series. Norma
February 27, 200916 yr 4th episode of this so far is my favourite. The first three follow the - first 30mins Law, second 30mins Order - format The 4th ep really mixes it up! Ben Daniels gives a truely superb performance. As does Freema. Really really great!
March 12, 200916 yr Some of the casting choices in this series are just so wrong..... Freema Agyeman just does not convince for a moment as a prosecution lawyer, she just looks lost frankly and out of her depth.... Compare her to the likes of Angie Harmon, Diane Neal, Stephanie March or Elizabeth Rohm from the US show who all played incredibly gutsy and convincing Asst District Attorney roles at various points in the original shows, they really needed a female actress with that kind of presence and authority.. Bill Patterson and Ben Daniels are both spot on though, Patterson making a good stand-in for Sam Waterston.... Not really convinced by Bradley Walsh or Jamie Bamber as cops either tbh.... Bamber I thought was excellent in Battlestar Galactica as Apollo, but here, I just dunno.... Same goes for Walsh, I've seen him in things where he's been good, but I'm just not convinced here.... Again, I know it's harsh, but look at the casting choices in the US shows for the cops, Jesse L Martin, Ice T, Mariska Hargitay, Jerry Orbach (the Law and Order LEGEND really...), Vincent D'onofrio, Chris Noth, Chris Meloni..... I think you get the point... We have some great actors who can play extremely good cop roles.... Seems to me that all of the best ones are in Red Riding, Waking the Dead or Ashes to Ashes at the moment though.......  I'll tell you the thing that really p!sses me off about this show though, that ALL the episodes so far have been rehashed from original Law and Order US plots.... Rip off..... <_< Check out the writing credits on IMDb.....
