Posted February 19, 200916 yr Bono wants to join Girls Aloud Thursday, February 19, 2009, 13:38Comment on this story Bono said he wants to audition to be the sixth member of Girls Aloud. The U2 frontman joked that he wanted to join the superstar girl group, who scooped a best single gong at the Brit Awards for The Promise, as they are a "cutting edge" band, according to The Sun. When asked by U2 bassist Adam Clayton which member he would want to be, Bono, 48, replied: "Seriously, I think Girls Aloud are at the cutting edge of pop music. They are a great band and deserve to be centre stage. They have everything a pop band should have - songs, the look, it's all there." The girls - made up of Cheryl Cole, 25, Nadine Coyle, 23, Sarah Harding, 27, Nicola Roberts, 23, and Kimberley Walsh, 27 - performed The Promise at the Brits wearing sequinned burlesque costumes and surrounded by male dancers in white top hats and tails. U2 also played at the bash, opening the show with a rendition of their latest single Get On Your Boots and said they still feel they are strong enough competition for younger bands as they have a "loyal fan base". Bono said: "We see ourselves as contemporaries of bands like Coldplay, Kings Of Leon, Interpol - and even Girls Aloud. "We have been doing this a long time but I still get the same nerves about releasing an album as I did in the early days." Get in the queue guys
