Posted February 25, 200916 yr OK, before I begin this post, I would like to make two things very clear seeing as people seem to fly into outrage as soon as the word Eurovision and BJSC are mentioned as being even potentially connected... 1 - This will NOT take the place of a contest, or even count/be listed as one 2 - This may not even be in the BJSC forum! Basically, my proposal is this...when all of the songs for the Eurovision Song Contest in 2009 are announced, we have all of the countries in the BJSC vote on them! It's basically the same as the poll we have every year except this would probably appeal to more than the same 5 voters that we get each year. It would be entirely optional, with two weeks for voting in the semi-finals (which could theoretically begin as soon as all of the songs are found out in March!) and two weeks for voting in the final (preferably left until the two weeks prior to the final of the ESC, with results being announced the Sunday before?). This contest would take place either in the BJSC forum or the ESC forum - your opinion! ^_^ As no national threads etc. would be created, it would just be one self-contained thread for those with Europhobia, and as I said before it would be entirely optional as to whether people participate or not - also, with the time-frame, it wouldn't even really disrupt the BJSC set to take place at that time. Anyway, I just thought I'd run the idea past y'all ;o Opinions? ^_^ Would people have autoqualification for the Big 4, would we have the jury wild-card for the semis (and if so, how would it work - perhaps the song which didn't finish top 9 but got the most 12s/10s/8s?), would people be interested etc.?
February 25, 200916 yr Sounds like fun to me, but it probably would be better in the Eurovision board than here :)
February 25, 200916 yr Author I figure this way I could get countries to participate...we normally do it in the ESC forum but it gets barely any attention :P
February 25, 200916 yr I'm in favour of doing us, but with the aim of getting the Final voting done the weekend before the 2 ESC Semi Finals take place to maximise interest.
February 25, 200916 yr It's a nice idea but I too think it's something for the Eurovision board. I love Eurovision but like to hear the songs for the first time on the night rather than be familiar with them all before hand so I don't think I'd want to take part. Good idea to raise awareness of this though, hopefully some BJSC people will get involved

Good idea to raise awareness of this though, hopefully some BJSC people will get involved It would be a lot better for the songs that are obvious growers methinks - e.g., France's song this year, being in the chanson style, is definitely more of a grower that will find it hard to be instant on the night...
February 25, 200916 yr Author So does each country take an ESC song? They could do, but the plan is to just have each country vote on all of the songs - although that does raise the question of how we avoid British bias. Not being allowed to vote for your home country is one solution, but Jade would flop so massively due to the British dominance on this forum that she wouldn't even be worth being entered into the hypothetical contest! Any ideas? :o
February 25, 200916 yr interesting idea, and it wouldn't require much effort on my part as there will undoubtedly be 10 or more ESC songs in my chart at that time so I'll just pull my points out from that  I can see that others might not be interested though, for reasons like Tom has, and people who just don't like the ESC in general, like Ben
February 25, 200916 yr Sounds good. I don't think you should be able to vote for your own country, though. I think 80% of the people here are British. :nocheer: Edited February 25, 200916 yr by Cal
February 26, 200916 yr Sounds good. I don't think you should be able to vote for your own country, though. I think 80% of the people here are British. :nocheer: I don't think British people would necessarily lean towards their countries entry. I like Jade's song, but I prefer Hadise's song for Turkey, the only other Euorvision song I've heard this year. I think I like this idea but it isn't really BJSC releated. Obviously people wouldn't have an entry, which makes it a Eurovision simulation basically. I wouldn't be against it taking place in here though. I think it would be a good way of getting into the entries this year as I've been lazy so far. (though I can't really remember when I started listening last year) I think it's a good way of drumming up some interest for Eurovision and even if it happens in the Eurovision forum, posting it in here has opened it up to more people than the usual 5.

I agree, I vote entirely based on the song, always I wouldn't have voted for Andy Abraham last year for example :heehee:

February 26, 200916 yr Yeah, but there could be somebody that would vote for their own country, regardless of the song. I didn't mean all the British on this forum would, I just meant that there's an 80% chance they could. I don't know if that made sense.

I completely agree, I think most people are sensible enough to not be overly biassed towards Jade. And to avoid confusion I think the actual contest should be in the Eurovision forum, if we have a BJSC going on at the same time it would get pretty hectic in here if this Eurovision vote was going on at the same time
