ooops... missed it..... was it any good?

interesting. very much about politics with politicians trying to be cool and failing completely by dancing along to the things are getting better song and looking like complete eejits!!, death of Versachi and Princess Diana, and also a bit on the Spice Girls (peter mandelson knew each one and had the album!!!)

This one wasn't as good, even though I remember it. all about Blair and Princess Diana.

When Princess Diana died it was the only time in Radio 1's history they did not count down the new weekly top 40 that week. I remember being gutted at the time, as I always listened to the charts. -_-

why was it a funeral that day?

I think it was the early hours (british time) on the Sunday morning when she had died, so all Radio Stations (and TV stations) programming was devoted to the news of her death and paying tribute to her. I think it as also as a mark of respect.

All radio stations banned songs that even hinted at death or had anything to do with cars and driving etc. And also dancey or loud songs were banned, they just played songs which were soft and reflected the public mood at the time!

It was all taken way too serious if you ask me, <_< but then I soppose she was the Princess!

if i can remember i think they only had 3 records on the radio. is this correct?

I'm not sure, though I'll be missing you by Puff Daddy was very popular, as it seemed pretty relevant. The week of her deatrh it jumped straight to no.1 on the airplay charts.

It was all a little overblown if you ask me.

Anyway, back to 1997 - the year Oasis finally kicked the music bucket, Blur came back and actually sounded good for the first time since Parklife, Prodigy made a (in hindsight) rather rubbish album, the Manics were strangely popular and The Verve sucked. Best songs of the year were by Gorky's Zygotic Mynci, Super Furry Animals and Urusei Yatsura.

Not a great year - but still better than 1998 - officially the worst year ever for music.
