Has anyone been to see this yet?

I went to see it with my boyfriend last night and rather liked it. It seemed ridiculously slow paced to start with, but, it got better. And there were quite a few "LOL" moments, which was unexpected but lovelyyyy.

This is a great film.... Unfortunately, I feel that Clint should really have stayed behind the camera, and maybe got the likes of his old buddie Jack Nicholson or, better yet, Dennis Hopper to play the part of Walt.... This is a really annoying film in a lot of ways.. It shows the strengths of Clint the director, but unfortunately, it shows the weaknesses of Clint, the actor.....

Not seen it yet - I'll let you know what I think of it when I have! I've not been to see a proper film in ages as I only go to the pictures now to see kids films with my son. I can't stand Dennis Hopper though so Eastwood will be an improvement for me.

God yeaaah, as soon as you wrote DH's name the mere concept of him doing it astounded me! He really would have been perfect.

I want to see it again though as I missed a huge chunk of it when I had to pop out for a cheeky....yeah ahah.

LOL they've actually made a film of it? :o :o

They've kept that really quiet :heehee: ...

I feel sickeningly ignorant writing this...but why? Is it a book or something? :o :/.

WOOPSsss.

My mistake, I thought the film was about Gran Turismo!

This is a truly wonderful film and I think Clint was amazing in it. A perfer last film for him acting. It is a very moving story that is hilarous at the same time. I've havent been in a cinema with the audience errupt into laughter so much in a long long time. They laughed a hell of alot more than they do with most comedies in recent times I've seen. I just loved this film and think Clint should've been nominated for best actor imo. Alot of critics said this as well. I know he played himself but it was such a powerful performance. Much perfered this to Slumdog Millionaire.

^ The part where the woman dropped her shopping and one of the group of boys mimicked sexing her ahahahahahahahaha.

And when Thao asked where he'd got his tools, and was replied with "This may be a surprise to a theif...but I bought them."

Champion stuff.

^ Aaaaahahahahahah you're genuinely amazing!!! <3

And quite the spaztic. :heehee:

If Clints in it, then it's probably worth checking out...

I saw this the other night. It has loads of flaws IMO: bad acting (from Clint and the Asian family) and it is horrendously cheesy - especially the last shot. BUT....there's something very likeable about it despite all it's flaws.

Really....? For the acting...??? Naaaah, directing, sure, but I found his acting to be rather poor tbh and sort of slightly diminished the sort of impact the film could have had.... I thought he was better in films like "Unforgiven", "Million Dollar Baby", or, well, "Dirty Harry" really..... His direction is flawless, but for me, he really should have kept himself out of it, just like he did with "Changeling", I mean, could you imagine him being as good in, say, the John Malkovitch role for example....? I just think Nicholson, De Niro or Hopper playing the role of Walt would've been a lot better....

It was a very good film which could've been brilliant had the right casting been made, IMO....

Can't agree with you there Grimply. I don't think there is anyone more suited to the role than Clint. He was so perfect for it it was as if the Walt charachter was written specifically for Clint. I much prefer Nicholson and De Niro as actors (they are my two favourites of all time) but the role of an angry old man surly is more suited to Eastwood, especially with him being nearly 80 and has played that role in so many of his past charachters. It just suited him so perfectly imo, and I thought it was a powerful, charming and hilarous performance. Everything from the growling (literally) to the racist remarks just for me, suted Clint so well. While I agree Clint is more suted behind the camera (cause he is a better director than actor) in general, for this particular role I don't blame him for taking it because as I said I don't think there are many more suited than Clint. I read in several of the reviews for Gran Torino that it was disgracful that Clint was not nominated for an Oscar for this. As far as directing though, I think he did a better job on Changeling. As far as the Asian actors in general, I think they were quite poor in the film, especially the lead. It doesnt look as though Clint put a huge amount of work into finding the best actors imo.

You're honestly trying to tell me that Nicholson cant play angry, surly old men....???  Please, and, sorry, but the Clint growl just made me laugh tbh (surely NOT really the intention), I just think Nicholson or De Niro would've been far more convincing in this role (Nicholson is in his 70s, so really, why NOT cast him..? De Niro could easily be made up to look 10/15 years older, they can do pretty amazing stuff with make up these days...), Clint is a great director, better than he ever was as an actor, I look at his achievements as a director, and, they far outweigh his achievements as an actor, in most of the great films he acted in, he was more or less just required to look cool or be a total bad ass (Dirty Harry, the Sergio Leone Westerns, In the Line of Fire, etc)...

Yeah, maybe he could have done better as far as the Korean actors go (I mean, he found superb Japanese actors for "Letters From Iwo Jima"), but I think that he was trying to give new, unknown actors a bit of leg-up (for pretty much all of the Korean/American actors in GT, this was their first film, so I think harsh criticisms are a bit unfair tbh...), it would've been so easy for him to get someone like the the actors who play Jin or Sun in "Lost", but I think he was correct to go for unknowns or semi-pros for the purposes of this film.... Where you could perhaps criticise is the fact that perhaps the Korean characters are all a bit underwritten, and this would be the fault more of the scriptwriters.... You can also criticise the cliched aspects of it, and the fact that it does rather deal with the issues of racism in a sledgehammer manner, for me it's much more preferable when the subject of race or ethnicity is dealt with in more subtle ways such as "Hidden" or "Jindabyne", which have far more impact and make you think a lot more....

Have you seen him in The Beguiled? An awfully creepy film set during the American Civil War but it was more of a cross between a love story and a gothic horror. It is generally regarded as his best acting role ever (some say its Josey Wales - but it isn't). It helped that he was surrounded by a brilliant cast (all female) and directed once again by Don Siegel (Siegel always got the best out of Eastwood as an actor). I actually liked and thought his acting was good in Dirty Harry and Magnum Force (not so much the later episodes). On the whole though ... he does suck as an actor. Apart from For A Few Dollars more (which was bloody excellent) I must be one of the few who hated the Dollar Trilogy of films - TGTBATU being one of the most boring films I've ever seen - if it wasn't for Eli Wallach and Ennio Morricone's score - it really wasn't worth the effort.

I'd forgotten about "The Beguiled".. Yes, indeed, it was a good, pretty creepy "Western". Yeah, prob one of Clint's better ones as well to be fair.... Josey Wales is great, but it's one of the more "Clint as total BAD ASS" films....

The Beguiled is a great film, one of my favourites of his.... didn't find it too creepy though, the creepiest thing i thought was his character getting it on with a 12 year old in the first 5 mins.

WOAH! Don't forget The Enforcer (the 3rd film), thats just as good as the first 2 imo. The 2 after that though are awful though, total change of pace and the character of Harry Callahan doesn't go with the age (Dead Pool is the worst film i've seen him in). They should of left it as a trillogy.
