An interesting hybrid of goth rock; Doors-esque Indian mysticism & old school heavy metal.

Love Removal Machine (1987 UK#18)

Lil' Devil (1987 UK#11)

Were any of you fans of Ian Astbury's & Billy Duffy's rock outfit or not?

Never really got into them, apart from She sells sanctuary, can't say I like any of their music.

likewise ....

think they kinda appealed to a younger generation , but maybe i was just getting tired and old after the euphoria of the punk era... i wouldnt knock them though as they clearly were quite influencial, perhaps i didnt expect the goth thing to last, but it did.

I loved 'em.

One of the first bands I saw live, caught at the tail end of the Love Tour at Brixton and they were brilliant.

I remember camping out at the local Our Price on the day of release of Electric and then wearing my copy out because I played it so much.

Cool band... Their classic albums are really "Love", "Electric" and "Sonic Temple"... They've continued to make pretty good albums though in the 00s, very much a "hard rock" band though, with Goth trappings, as opposed to being pure gothic rock like bands such as Sisters of Mercy or Fields of the Nephilim..... Astbury and Duffy are really part of that post-punk movement anyway along with Siouxsie, Pete Murphy and Robert Smith, The Cult was once Southern Death Cult.... I think a lot of people actually underestimate the importance of Duffy and Astbury on the modern music scene, I mean, it seems to be taken as read that Siouxsie, Joy Division, The Cure, The Bunnymen, etc are all extremely inportant, The Cult are often ignored in that whole thing.....

Too right Grim.

Fatman and Moya are both great songs and the stuff they did as Death Cult was also really good.

Southern Death Cult - Fatman (Live)

Death Cult - God's Zoo

^ ah yes, indeedy, The Tube... Along with (Saint) John of Peel Acres (hallowed be his name...), responsible for delivering us from so much cr@p and blandness..... I've seriously lost count of the amount of great music that both of these treasured sources gave me, talk about influencing my whole life pretty much....

We really need another Peel or Tube now more than ever.....

^ I 100% agree.

At least BBC2's Later with Jools Holland & The Culture Show combined do the job that The Old Grey Whistle Test used to do ......

talking of which my favourite The Cult song:

The Cult - Resurrection Joe (1984 UK#74 live on The Whistle Test)

Hmmmmm, I dunno, I just dont think that old Jools takes half as many chances as he used to.... There's a lot of types of music that "..Later" just seems to ignore or at least, seriously under-represent... I really dunno why Jools cant get the likes of Metallica, Nine Inch Nails or Slipknot onto "..Later" when they do come to the UK, these are seriously BIG bands.... There's a lot of very good Scandinavian and German dark pop and synth pop as well, also, I dont think that he's managed to get the likes of Ladytron, Client or IAMX onto the show either....

Metallica have been on Later on 4 separate occasions.... including an entire special episode towards them in 1996.

Their last appearance being to promote Death Magnetic in Sept 2008:

Metallica - Cyanide (Later 2008)

Metallica - The Day That Never Comes (Later 2008)

Whilst the first time Ladytron came onto my musical radar was when they appeared on the show back in 2005, the same year that Client appeared on the show.

However, I do agree the show has started to lose its cutting edge over the last few years.
