Posted February 28, 200916 yr Back in the 80s I was a right Indie Kid what with The Smiths and C86 and all that... I have fond memories of settling down to The Chart Show about once a month with my finger hovering on the pause button of the VCR waiting to catch whatever videos the producers chose to play during the count down of the Indie Chart. Now some people have uploaded some of these to Youtube and I wondered what you all thought of these. There are some right classics in this chart from 1986 and all of them bring back some great memories for me. I think this one is a year-end chart from 86. DBythxQ-0Rs And here is the rundown for those who can't be bothered to watch.. 1. The Smiths - Panic 2. Erasure - Sometimes 3. The Mission - Garden of Delight 4. The Smiths - Ask 5. New Order - State of the Nation 6. The Smiths - Bigmouth Strikes Again 7. The Mission - Serpent's Kiss 8. Depeche Mode - A Question of Time 9. Half man Half Biscuit - Trumpton Riots 10. We've Got a Fuzzbox - Fuzzbox EP
February 28, 200916 yr One of the best all time top 10's ever. :cheer: :cheer: Today's indie will NEVER have as much quality - and I mean never. :puke2: I like the ENTIRE top 9 too!
March 2, 200916 yr  The guy from the missions make up looks like a bad trannys face. I love all the smiths songs only know of them and erasure. Not heard the Depeche Mode one b4.
March 3, 200916 yr They were on Mute back when indie actually meant being on an indie label. ok but doesnt that pose the obvious question?... so if the saturdays recorded on a truely independant record label, would they be 'indie'? strange to reverse the question/proposition posed ... what is indie?
March 4, 200916 yr Author Then they would have been. When Indie meant Independent Label. Now Indie is a genre. And you can thank your favourites SAW for that situation in part as believe it or not PWL were considered an indie label as were loads of dance labels and the indie chart became more of a dance chart with some indie records and Indie (genre) moved onto the majors and started to become what we know Indie as today. Really Indie as in Independent ended sometime around 1990. Edited March 4, 200916 yr by grebo69

Really Indie as in Independent ended sometime around 1990. well i knew they re-defined the definition of 'pop' but had never really considered the impact on the indie scene, but then again the mid - late 80's and into the early 90's wasnt a time when i took much notice of contemporary music as the style wasnt my 'thing'...
