I would say Hendrix is the greatest. Then the likes of Stevie Ray Vaughan, Tommy Emmanuel(check this guy out) and Danny Gatton. Who are your favourites? Please post, cheers...

Hendrixxxx, + Jimmy Page are personal favourites. I'd also say Joe Perry to, but that's me just being biased and unrealistic.
Mr Marr

LOL, I wouldn't even rate him above Prince.

Some of my faves

SRV

Hendrix

BB King

Carlos Santana

Jimmy Page

Jeff Healey (blind guitarist)

Yngwie Malmsteen

Angus Young (a personal fave as opposed to a technical genius)

Brian May (see above)

Randy Rhoads

Dimebag Darrell

so your posting in THE forum i MOD in and calling ME a pointless member?

sorry for calling you predictable but if i knew you were online when this thread got posted i could of easily said that you would say Johnny Marr, and you did, i also said it as a JOKE but obviously your too up your own arse to take that joke.

and i also culdnt be arsed to tell you that obviously Marr is no where near the best guitarist in the world, yeah he is an alright guitarist but greatest ever and you must be living in a f***ing dream world.

LOL yeah saying Marr is the best guitarist ever is like saying that Frank Lampard is the greatest footballer ever, Marr is good but I certainly can not remember any breathtaking solo bits in Smiths songs

He's good alright, but as far as Indie/Alternative goes, there were/are far more expressive guitarists with more flamboyant styles - Lee Ronaldo (Sonic Youth), J Mascis (Dinosaur Jr), Nick McCabe (The Verve), James Iha (Smashing Pumpkins), Will Sergeant (Echo and the Bunnymen), Robert Smith and John Squire (Stone Roses) are names that spring to mind.....

Anyway, we all know that as far as Hard Rock goes, Hendrix, Page and Iommi are pretty much the Daddies.....

Eric Clapton.

'clapton is god' ..... yep back in the day clapton was regarded as 'the best', but even he payed homage to hendrix, back in early 67 he saw hendrix at a gig in london shortly after he arrived here (courtesy of chas chandler (later to manage slade) and eric burdon, both of the animals). clapton was reoprtedly in awe of hendrix " how does he do that" he is reported as saying...

Hendrix, Slash and Jimmy Page are my three favourites, but honourable mentions go to Dimebag Darrell, Randy Rhodes and, of course, BUCKETHEAD!
people need to start recognizing john mayer, the dudes a legend in the making, just youtube his blues guitar songs/solos

Thanks for the answers dudes. Clapton is very overrated in my opinion. John Mayer is decent but he plays crappy pop music. Satriani and the likes are technically amazing but make me feel nothing whatsoever. What do yous think is more important, techinical ability or just liking the way they sound?? Personally I think a balance is essential really.....
My FAVOURITES are The Edge and Slash.
John Fruscante if thats how you spell his name is an amazing strat player and probably one of the best in the world at the moment.
