Britney Spears made her live comeback last night on the opening night of her world tour - but lip-synched throughout the show.

The singer was seen miming rather than singing as she attempted some of her more complicated dance routines during the New Orleans circus-themed extravaganza.

The star, 27, also changed into a myriad of skimpy outfits for her performance, the opening night of her first tour since 2004's Onyx Hotel live jaunt.

However, she said little to the crowd during the 90-minute, 22-song show, in her home state of Louisiana, apart from a "thank you New Orleans" at the end of the show.

Brit showed off her newly-toned figure by wearing wore a number of revealing costumes for the visual feast, which included jugglers, acrobats and martial arts dancers.

She began the show being lowered down from the ceiling on wires dressed as a sexy ringmaster and performed a mix of old and new hits including Womanizer and Baby One More Time.

Brit is being supported by The Pussycat Dolls on her tour, which arrives in the UK this summer for dates at the London O2 from 3-14 June.

The whole 44-date Circus tour meanwhile goes around the world for four months.

Shock horror, SHE MIMES :o

Shame she didn't speak to the crowd though :( What is she now? A doll with no personality?

She didn't speak in DWAD or Onyx, did she?

And even though I thoroughly expected her to mime, according to the tour thread (at the top) she did Circus, Everytime, If U Seek Amy and more (I forget which...) live, but then reports stopped coming...

I've never been to any of her tours but she hasn't spoken at ALL throughout this whole era (aside from the well-publicised MTV interview etc.). It's really quite weird when you think about it.
Trust The Mirror to try to make a spectacular show sound like crap. Alot of other people said she sang live through some of the songs.
Would you want her to sing live? Because if she did, no way would the show be as 'spectacular'..

LOL true but ouch, I think I would prefer her to sing live it adds to whole live feel of a live concert

actually this should be the main thing in a concert

but u cannot call a Britney show a concert...for me concert is the stage and 1,000-2,000 people on it ...and yeah a band who plays intruments.

C'mon guys...I am a Britney fan too, but she is lip-synching thru the entire show....do you think it would sound like that if it was live? The songs sound exactly like the album. She lip-synchs her concerts, her TV appearances, etc. Let's be real here and admit it....you can still love her and admit she lipsynchs!!!

I will agree with you, but there have been youtube videos from the Circus tour where you can tell she is singing live because at times she will go off key or will just stop singing because she loses her breath. But yes majority of the show is lip synced but I think she is trying to slowly incorporate live singing as she get more comfortable.

If the show is filled with amazing dance moves & special effects, I don't care about her singing or not!
Yeah, obviously the majority of fans are awed by the tour without her singing a whole lot live. At least she sings live through some parts (even if it's with a backing track) which is nice and better than nothing. I think peoples' opinions about whether she should sing move live changes when they actually see her in concert.
I'd rather her feel comfortable when try and sing live when she isn't ready, the thing is she has a lot of hard dance routines to do. So I can understand why she mimes, and from what some people have said she doesn't mime all the time. OH and I'd also like to see her speak to the crowd more, maybe she's a little shy when it comes to that, I dunno.
