Review with setlist from someone on PJ:

Hi all! I was at the tour last night and it was rather impressive for a first ever headline gig. Pixie Lott was alright, she did a cover of a Kings Of Leon song which I can’t remember the name of, and her single Mama Do seemed to go down well.

About 8.45, the girls came on stage – the band started with an instrumental of Up, but then the set list was the following:

If This Is Love (Wearing black coats which are taken off to reveal sort of silver outfits)

Set Me Off

Just Can’t Get Enough

Keep Her

Wordshaker

Why Me Why Now (Done in a Mowtown style)

Fall

Beggin’ (Acoustic)

Chasing Lights (Acoustic) – The version where they all sing parts not just Vanessa

Break (The video screen showed clips from their video diaries which went down well)

Medley (Shut Up And Drive/I Kissed A Girl/So What) (Changed into black outfits)

One Shot

Lies

Work

Encore (Change into sparkly red and blue outfits)

Issues

Up

There were 2 costume changes in total – all the girls looked good, and were in fine voice. So the whole album, bar Vulnerable. I was worried that they wouldn’t do Lies, but it was there!

It was interesting to hear the 2 news songs, both were pretty good – One Shot probably got a better reception. Rochelle seemed to be singing the majority of both tracks. They are definitely better live singers than Girls Aloud are.

It was also great to finally hear who sings what parts in some of the album tracks – I always thought Why Me Why Now was just Una and Vanessa but Rochelle has a few lines in the second verse (can’t remember which ones though) and also in Set Me Off. Mollie and Frankie actually sing a bit more than I thought – they tend to do a lot of the harmony lines as they have higher voices.

As for merchandise – there is TONS! About 8 different t-Shirts, I got a grey one saying I (Heart) The Saturdays – plus the usual keyrings, mugs, mousemats, Posters, badges, and even a hoodie with Team Sats on the back (it was £50 though!) and a pair of Team Sats pants if anyone fancied them.

The programme was £10 and I never buy these but couldn’t resist, and I’m glad I did as it has all the song words for the album, and I finally know what Frankie is singing in Lies!

The crowd was a mix of teenage girls, gay boys and a smattering of 20 somethings.

So overall a good 9/10, great first effort and bodes well for a successful future.

Did Pixie only do those 2 songs then?

Good to see Mollie & Frankie got to sing a bit more. Vocall they are the weaker 2, but it's only fair they all sing a bit.

Really bursting with exitment now, im not going to be able to wait until the 23rd now!

She must have done more than two, they just commented on those ones. :)

Clips have convinced me to go so me and friends gonna go to Manchester as tickets still available. :D

Just about to post it but Ryan got there first

Poor Ness, hope she gets better! Must be a bit of a disaster having your best vocalist unable to be there

Poor Ness! Wonder how they coped with so many of the songs.

Una updates: "she is a trooper she came out on a wheelchair half way and sang her heart out!"

Good on her !!

Aww she's amazing! Must have been terrible only second night in. Hope she gets better soon, I'd be gutted if she wasn't there at show I'm going to.
Yeap, good on her. I repeat what i said earlier though, hope she gets better and is fine by the 23rd.
I think she'll be there for most of the shows but in a wheel chair.

I don't think a sprained ankle will take that long to heal. It's not like she's broken it.

THE SATURDAYS

CLYDE AUDITORIUM, GLASGOW

WASN'T one Girls Aloud sufficient? To be fair, probably not – so popular are Britain's most successful girl band there's barely enough of them to go around. It's a shrewd svengali that has formed The Saturdays, then, another bunch of five young femal

es in daring frocks, and pitched them into the semi-credible pure pop fray to mop up the leftovers.

Judging by this show – the first date of their first live tour – the Saturdays will be dining out on Girls Aloud's tab for some time to come, although, threatening to muscle in on their pint-sized, glow stick-waving, pick'n'mix-guzzling fan base already is their tour support Pixie Lott, a diminutive 18-year-old Essex lass in huge heels and a spangly leotard. Like Hannah Montana with a big R&B voice, she's tipped for superstardom and has the lungs to prove it.

As for the headliners, did they giggle and gibber hyperactively, and return every overeager young cherub's wave? They sure did! Was a lot of their set filled our with covers of hit songs off the radio, such as Katy Perry's I Kissed A Girl and Pink's So What? You bet! Did we get more costume changes than London Fashion Week? Did we ever!

It was an arena show by numbers, then, but on a convincing budget and from a band that looked and sounded the part. Heck, they even sang live – that might seem like damningly faint praise, but not all chart pop acts that pass through the SECC do.

Much of The Saturdays' own material is forgettable stuff, yet they have a couple of sassy corkers in sultry tear-jerker Issues, and their final number of the night, Up, which hangs on a memorable scoff: "If you lose me you know, you're just a bit slow."

The Saturdays

Clyde Auditorium, Glasgow

***

Above a sea of tweeny neon, The Saturdays emerge on stage in 1950s style trench-coats for the opening gig of their first headline tour. Unknown a year ago, they've had a hurtling year of success with debut album Chasing Lights and hit singles If This Is Love and Up. The Saturdays seem to be the new face - and look and legs - of teeny pop so it's a shame the reality doesn't live up to the hype.

The trouble is that only Vanessa White can really sing. The other four look great, but vocally just can't cut it beside such a strong singer.

Opening their set with If This Is Love and closing with Up meant there could've been a lot of slow, dead space in between, but the girls managed to keep the gig upbeat, with plenty of covers (the best being their medley of Rihanna, Katy Perry and Pink) and a nicely done acoustic middle section with a cover of Madcon's Beggin' (which they recently performed in Radio 1's live lounge).

I'm sorry but only Vanessa can sing? BULL. Even Mollie is ok some when shes on form :kink:

Yes we all know Vanessa has the best voice but give the others some credit will you!
