Posted March 5, 200916 yr Liverpool Hope University has launched the world's first degree in The Beatles. According to The Guardian, 'The Beatles, Popular Music And Society' will cover topics including the postwar recording industry and the importance of location in music. "There have been over 8,000 books about the Beatles but there has never been serious academic study and that is what we are going to address," said Mike Brocken, senior lecturer in popular music. The masters course, which consists of four 12-week modules and a dissertation, will examine the band's sound and compositions, as well as the influence of Liverpool in their music. "This MA is expected to attract a great deal of attention, not just locally but nationally and we have already had enquiries from abroad, particularly the United States," said Brocken. Defending the academic benefits of the course, he added: "Any MA equips people with extra study and research skills. MAs of any description are vital for the workplace. You will find that once you have done a master's degree it separates you from the pack." A maximum of 30 students will be accepted on to the course, which begins in September. source: Digital Spy
