I would object to the claim that Saakashvili started the conflict, but changing their entry was an option available to Georgia:

Seeing as WDWPI is a song that is effectively irrelevant without the chorus, it would've made sense for Georgia to send an entry that would've actually been of musical merit rather than pay money to the EBU for nothing...and this was the EBU, not Russia Boyan ;)

still "somebody" must've complained, dont you think :P ?

Oh come on. I really wanted the Georgian song to be 'Put In' after all. I think it's fun. :kink: It grew on me. Now they withdrew... :drama:
We don't wanna Putin? :P

yeah I know that :P

but... it's only two words! :o nothing else of the text is affending for this.. President.. or whatever :P I think he is scary too, I don't blame Georgia :P

Trashyy, I was talking about that Georgia-Russia conflict happened lots earlier btw. If you meant so too then ignore myself. ;o

The LAST thing that Putin is scared of is having his name 'accidentally' pronounced about 50 times on ESC in front of the whole Europe. :heehee:

Srsly - I liked the entry. I want to hope (and i do) that it was a joke! But withdrawing would meanthat it wasn't so. So Georgia really don't wanna Putin that they didn't want to rewrite the lyrics? :( He's not the President anymore, y'know? :(

Because Putin can't be the President for the third term :P

Because Putin can't be the President for the third term :P

why not? =(

Do Russia have a Barack Obama? :)

or Hilary Cliton? :kink:

Medvedev has been our 'new' president for a year now. Still, Putin is extremely powerful in the government atm nevermind him being only The Prime Minister. 'United Russia' party is vicious imo :drama: [/politicalamateurpostsofftopic]

Who was the second finished song in their NF btw? ;o

No, seeing as the Reference Group reviews ALL of the songs. You don't have to have much more than a basic knowledge of Europe to know that WDWPI had an obvious political reference, which goes against the EBU's code for the ESC...hence why Greenjolly had to modify their lyrics in 2005. Although once they did that, what was already a pretty awful entry became an awful and irrelevant entry, so I can understand why Georgia withdrew WDWPI...what I don't understand is why they didn't just send something else so they wouldn't have to pay the EBU for nothing :/

Damn, I liked this... how hard would it have been to chance TWO WORDS? :drama:

I somehow doubt that they would've gone for that, seeing as Georgia was one of the few nations that according to The Economist or some such current affairs publication preferred McCain to Obama at the recent election...
Eurovision was always politic since the beginning and will be if you want or not.

It's such a shame they withdrew. I'm not going into the whole argument, and this is purely for record, but I'm on Georgia's side.

Even though I'm a fan, I don't think the song was a good idea. It would have been great as a standard release, but I don't think bringing in such politics was a good way to get their message across.

RIP Georgia.

folks u are hilarious....

Well I think they did the right thing of recusing to alterate the lyric, and to get out of the ridiculous eurovision, because the real lyric nothing have about Putin, if eurovision understands "Putin" and not "Put in" then its eurovision problem.
