Pink came up with the idea for the Funhouse theme and she was closely involved in the visual design. The design crystallized through meetings in London and emails around the world. The final style of a weather-beaten derelict funfair was locked down in the fall of 2008. The show includes several acrobatic performances by Pink. She opens the show by being lifted from the ‘B’ stage trap on a circeau that tracks the length of the runway to drop her on the main stage. Later she performs a bungee routine, and a routine on a static trapeze. The show closes with her on a trapeze above the ‘B’ stage, where the trapdoors open to allow her to drop into a pool of water and emerge, spinning and spraying water everywhere. The props include a custom-built chaise-longue that is used for a moody solo performance in Touch Myself, a custom-built heart-shaped double bed that is used for a spectacular pillow fight in So What, and four funhouse curvy mirrors. Two inflatable characters, a harlequin and a scary clown, appear above the upstage runway for Bohemian Rhapsody. The stage design is based around a 10ft high runway that runs the full width of the stage, with changing rooms underneath. It is accessed by zig-zag stairs from the front, and get-on stairs at the rear. Two fairground slides drop to stage level between the stairs, dividing the band area into three zones for keyboards and drums. The three zones are decorated with the shells of derelict waltzer cars. The video screen upstage is masked by irregular frames decorated with cabochon lights and hangs downstage of a curtain of custom-woven overscaled black lace. The fascia and floor graphics were created in Illustrator and digitally printed at 65dpi.
