PARIS (AFP) – Two-time Grammy winner Pink, in Paris on Monday for Fashion Week, said she would never befriend a designer who used fur as she joined Stella McCartney in the launch of a new PETA animal rights campaign.

"Killing animals for their skin is so disgusting that it doesn't make me want to befriend designers who use them," said the 29-year singer-songwriter.

Pink, born Alecia Beth Moore and whose fifth album Funhouse has sold three million copies worldwide since release last October, is the voice on the latest animal rights ad launched worldwide Monday by PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals).

Featuring a skinned bloodied alligator and an equally horrific blood-covered furless rabbit, the 20-second ad shows the two animals screeching for their skins back at a woman in a fur coat with an alligator "It" bag.

"That fur is mine," says rabbit. "What kind of a person steals a guy's coat?"

But while McCartney, who never uses fur for her models, joined Pink for the PETA launch, fur-loving French designer Jean-Paul Gaultier was less than supportive this weekend when some 50 PETA activists shouted "Gaultier assassin" at his catwalk show.

"They p*** me off because they're violent," Gaultier said. "Frankly I don't give a damn. I will continue to do fur, I love doing fur."

PETA believes alligators killed for their skins may be beaten to death with hammers and axes, while undercover investigations of fur farms in China – now believed to be the world’s largest exporter of fur – revealed animals, including rabbits, cats and dogs, are often skinned alive.
