Mark Knopfler's group built their sound upon laid-back blues-rock but added jazz and country influences, added to Mark's Dylanesque vocal delivery. They were huge during the mid 1980s.

Were any of you fans of Mark Knopfler's former pub rock outfit or was their music too laid back for your liking?

I can take them or leave them. I don't actually own any of their albums, but did like a few of their singles. My 2 favourites are Sultans of swing and private investigations. Quite liked Romeo & Juliet, Lady Writer, Money for nothing.

But I hated Walk of life, Tunnel of love & twisting by the pool.

Brothers in arms was just

Good video for Calling Elvis though :D

Sultans Of Swing is one of my all-time favourites, I can take or leave the rest of what they've done. Like brian91, there was a time that I hated Walk Of Life and Twisting By The Pool, but I don't mind them now. Maybe it was because they were so overhyped and overplayed throughout the 80s and 90s.
