They were knocked off the top by The Spice Girls follow-up 'Say You'll Be There' which, incidentally, was knocked off the top spot by '2 Become 1'. The first time the #1 wasnt a record by The Spice Girls was when Texas knocked them off the top spot on the 20th January 1997 with 'Say What You Want'. The Spice Girls have spent a total of 53 weeks at #1 between 1996 and 2000. The longest consecutive run at #1 was with 'Spice Up Your Life' which spent #12 weeks at #1.
