Yan's German chart comments - Issue date March 27

So as Lady GaGa spends another week, her third actually, at the summit of the German singles charts, two things I've predicted last week have come true after Kings of Leon and Lady GaGa's other, never-dying song, enter the top 10. Still, I think there is something wrong with the fact that "Just Dance" reaches a new peak in its 28th week in the chart, but it seems that Germans cannot have enough of GaGa. Another curious fact is that as Peter Fox's latest single "Schwarz zu blau" falls out of the top 10, his former hit "Haus am See" stays firm at the #8 position in its 22nd week. Fox also continues his supremacy in the albums chart.

The biggest new entry comes in at #3 by Belgian artist Milow. His cover of 50 Cent's "Ayo Technology" has already managed to top the Belgian and Dutch charts. The debut single of Milow, or Jonathan Vandenbroeck as his parents call him, matches the #3 peak of 50 Cent's 2007 hit. I'm still not getting the appeal of the song though.

The other new entry in this week's top 20 belongs to pop legends Pet Shop Boys  at #15. The boys were a major force in the German charts in the 80s with a string of top ten hits, starting from "West End Girls" and ending with "So Hard". They have also four number one hits, which, having in mind the German charts, is quite a feat. Unfortunately last time they were in the top ten (Robbie's "She's Madonna" excluded) was way back in 1993 with the classic "Go West". "Love etc", the pilot single from Pet Shop Boys' tenth album, sees them return on form and finally once again in the top 20. However, I expect the song to collapse in the next week... Fingers crossed it stays in the top 30 longer.

The last new entry worth mentioning is at #23, where, to my annoyance, "Day N Nite", the hit of American hip hop artist Kid Cudi, finally breaks into the German charts. :w00t:

DJ Quicksilver - I Have A Dream

I think that was his first big hit.

Chart Run: 48-52-35-24-22-12-7-4-5-5-7-6-7-12-13-18-20-26-31-35-49-46-56-75 [24 wks]

PS: actually it was Bingo bongo, but it only reached number 36 in Germany.

where did Bellissima reach? That's his big hit

It was actually never a single in Germany on its own. It was the B side of I Have A Dream. So maybe joint biggest hit with I Have a Dream

Free though peaked at number 4 too:

hmmm I guess Bellissima was the reason I Have A Dream made #4 then, it was so huge all over Europe

I wouldn't be so sure. As far as I can remember, I Have A Dream hit the TV (Viva) earlier than Bellissima. Though I have to say I prefer Bellissima, and I'm sure that it was the more popular song of the two, that's why it was released on its own everywhere else.

As far as I remember I Have A Dream was the song that got all the TV and radio airplay and was always played in the chart shows. I never heard Bellissima until I bought the single...

But on the other hand I was too young to go to clubs at that time... ^_^
