“I want to be known as a producer and a musician, not just a DJ or a dubstep guy,” he says, casually mentioning that he’s just completed production work for Sean Paul and Björk and planned to return to his laptop after our chat to work on a tune for Lupe Fiasco.

“Oh yeah, and I’m working with Switch on some stuff for Santogold and a track for Shakira,” he adds. “Good music is good music for me, no matter how it comes out.”

“Keep it simple and heavy, that’s my general rule,” Mercer laughs as we resume our chat later that day, his voice echoing in a hotel lobby. “It’s all about the energy. The music is made for jumping up and down — it’s straight-up club party music.”

If it's anything like Santogold and Bjork, I will be in heaven.

So glad she's working with these people. She's finally got the right idea about collaborators. It's such a move up in the musical world from the Matrix.
