This must be selling well - have just rung up asking about VIP tickets and they're sold out with 'just a few hundred' normal tickets left!

The VIP page says SOLD OUT too now I see.

That's great news  is that the English heritage/Seetickets site [seetickets takes you to the heritage site] or does it include ticketmaster's allocation, either way it's still great :cheer:

Just saw this - TM only seem to be selling 16 promenade tickets BYM&Ms, no VIPs unless I'm missing something. :) Did you see they put some extra VIP tickets on sale so I think everyone will have to budge up

No idea. Hope it's sold well.

It's difficult to judge these type of concerts. They just keep selling tickets until they've reached a nice profit and beyond

My tracker is showing they have sent the tickets out at long last. Just got my NIA tickets to come now.

Will Young

■ Will Young, Audley End House, Saturday July 25 at 7.30pm. Tickets

Will Young

GIVEN that many people can't mention TV talent shows without sneering, you'd think that Pop Idol winner Will Young might try to sweep his origins under the carpet.

But no. Not only is the singer-songwriter "extremely proud, and always will be" of his very public breakthrough, but Will admits he's a massive fan of reality shows.

"I'm obsessed with them all. I love them!" he grins. "And I weep at all of them too - I completely buy into the whole thing.

"I'm terrible - I'm the person who buys the wine that's at the end of the aisle, even though it's more expensive, because I think it's on offer. I'm a complete sucker."

Sucker or not,Will has enjoyed a seriously successful career since pipping Gareth Gates to the Pop Idol post back in 2002.

Thanks to his ability to please discerning audiences without alienating the screaming teens, the Berkshire boy has become one of the UK's bestloved solo artists, with 11 top 10 hits including Leave Right Now, Light My Fire and All Time Love under his belt. He's also achieved sales of a whopping eight million, 10 Brit Award nominations (two of which he's won) and a string of other accolades, from Ivor Novello awards to the slightly less high-brow Rear of the Year gong in 2005.

But hopefully it'll be Will's front that the audience will be concentrating on when he performs at Audley End on Saturday.

"It'll be great fun. I haven't done a house for a long time - I've been doing more festivals. But life's all about variety, so it'll be great to go from Glastonbury one minute to a nice smart house the next," he says.

Judging by the comments section on his website, fans will be coming from all corners of Britain for the concert (even one from Scotland, who says he's very much looking forward to seeing Will at "Audbury House"). So does he often see the same faces in the crowd?

"Oh God yes, some people have been coming for years," says Will, but he insists it doesn't unsettle him:"No, it's actually quite nice. I was probably freaked out to begin with, but now I'm like: 'Oh, hello! How are you?' It's brilliant because they're so enthusiastic, and there's nothing wrong with a bit of enthusiasm. Nothing at all."

Enthusiasm is something Will has by the bucket-load, which makes it all the more surprising that he didn't always have stardom in his sights. In fact, on leaving school he went to Exeter University to study politics, but quickly decided that a career as a politician wasn't for him.

"No, because I'm really stupid! People think I'm really clever because I'm quite well-spoken and I did politics, but actually I'm not," he laughs.

Instead, he plumped for performing arts college in London in 2001, and the rest, as they say, is history.

So what can we expect from Mr Young at Audley End? "We're going to be doing an upbeat set, and I'm really, really pleased with it. Last summer my set was quite mellow, almost 'bluesy, souly pop', whereas this one is a bit more funky - 'funky bluesy pop', I suppose."

And, says Will, he doesn't have a preference between the "mellow" and "funky" numbers:

"Honestly this isn't a cop-out, but I love all of them. They're very different things, but each song has so many different memories, particularly if I've written it."

Naturally those memories can make singing the songs something of an emotional rollercoaster, and Will admits that he once even cried on stage:

"But it wasn't embarrassing, it was quite wonderful actually," he says.

"It wasn't because I was upset that day, it was really just because I believed in the song. That sounds a bit pretentious, but it's true. I really do believe in the songs, so I can't not get emotional."

Will turned 30 in January and, he says, he's absolutely loving it: "Basically if there's any excuse to have a party, I just go: 'No this is my thirtieth'. People say: 'But you've had 10 thirtieths', and I say:'Well, I'll have another one'.

Why not? It's brilliant.

"I don't really like looking older, but I love getting older. I'm getting more and more confident and content, and I think that comes across in my performances."

And although he's currently working on album number five,Will says he's happier on stage than anywhere else."You just get brilliant audiences and a great reaction to things, and that's something you don't get when you're in the studio.

"That excitement, the vibe off people, is infectious," he sighs. "I just love what I do so much."

Loving how happy he sounds & the mention of working on the 5th album. :yahoo:

Gives more credence to it being him going into the studio with Steve Lipson.

Thanks T - was just coming over to post this -

Great mention about the new album - hope it's the dance one - "working on" sounds promising.

He loves the live stuff doesn't he and his contentment certainly does show

Ooohhhh album #5  thanks TT

I hope it's not a dance album  but i can't see it being one, the record company won't want to pay for something so risky especially since LIG under performed [because of lack of airplay  ] but a whole new studio album full of happy upbeat tracks

Doesn't it sound good? album number *5* :yahoo: I can remember getting really upset all those years ago, when I thought Will had disappeared after From Now On. :snif:

I know - I've just read it over on D - Valr reckons it holds 10,000. I did wonder because it's difficult to know when there's no seating. :yahoo: :cheer:

We just need to know what time he's on now and if he has a support act.

I think we'd better get there earlier than I had planned - reckon the girls will be camping out
