TWO middle-aged men called Simon with dyed hair and high waistbands don’t immediately sound like material for a titanic battle.

But when millionaire music moguls SIMON FULLER and SIMON COWELL go head-to-head this week for silverware honouring the greatest music executive ever, I predict the gloves will definitely be off.

On Wednesday the two Simons are up against each other at the 50th anniversary Music Week Magazine Awards in London.

Both music bosses — Fuller at 19 Entertainment and Cowell at SyCo — are nominated along with 18 other industry legends for a pretty incredible bragging right.

Whoever wins will be able to say they are the pop guru judged to have made the greatest contribution to the music industry in the last 50 years.

That title would go well with the Bentley, eh gents?

And there’s plenty of history between the two to make it a tasty scrap too.

Fuller and Cowell were embroiled in an ugly court battle for months over the similarities between Pop Idol and The X Factor.

Bitter

A source said: “There has been some bad blood between them. Things have cooled over the last few years but they are still bitter rivals. They are fierce competitors, always have been and always will be.

“Simon Cowell always likes to distance himself from awards ceremonies. He has nothing to do with the Brits, for example.

“His argument is that he would much rather have an act at the top of the charts than be picking up some silverware at an industry bash.

“He would love to get one over on Simon Fuller though, and vice versa. They are competitive men and want to win in everything they do.

“Fuller is a lot more private than Cowell, but he would love a victory at the Music Week bash to be as public as possible.”

The best thing about the ceremony is that both Simons could go home empty-handed.

A panel of industry experts compiled a shortlist of 20 names spanning five decades in British music, including LED ZEPPELIN manager PETER GRANT and THE BEATLES producer SIR GEORGE MARTIN.

Cowell is tied-up with American Idol auditions in Los Angeles, but Fuller is expected to make an appearance at the bash in Grosvenor Hotel, London.

For all the success they have both had, it’s worth remembering this — Cowell gave us STEVE BROOKSTEIN and Fuller gave us DARIUS DANESH.

There’s hope for us all.

To make it worse it is published under Bizarre by Gordon smart who himself is scottish.Out of interest I didnt realise Fuller managed Andy Murray the tennis player who is doing well for himself and the Beckhams.
Its them who Darius should be mentioned with, not Bloody Steve Brookstein!!I agree with you about things being made worse by the fact that Gordon is Scottish too,why oh why cant the Scottish be proud of Darius instead of turning against him! Now, if he took drugs i bet it would different!
I don't like every English performer. I object to the mis-reporting rather than whether he appreciates Darius or not.
You would think we'd be used by it by now, but it still has the ability to get me so annoyed. Sue
Excactly, not worthy of being loo paper but,the place for these 'tabloids' is in the Cat litter tray!

The Sun is aimed at a certain section of the community, and the journalists employed are incumbent to report in a somewhat

scurrilous manner, or they would swiftly join the ranks of the unemployed. They do their job; it is up to the public to either agree

or disagree --- at least it provokes a response. In this country we pride ourselves on the freedom of speech, and long may

this continue. The article is quite factual on the whole .......the tail end is the sting to set people talking.

But it is worth remembering that all publicity is good publicity in that it keeps that person in the public eye. and doubtless a great

many Sun readers wil disagree with the insult as fervantly as we do.

He never has done. He always works hard though. I'm looking forward to the fruits of his labours.

Talking about keeping in the public eye there wasa a PR journalist on breakfast tv this week who said it was important to keep re-appearing regularly in the public eye or else you are forgotten. Strangely on the same programme but later they interviewed Shaun Williamson who played opposite D in Guys and dolls and asked him the same question. He agreed with the PR journalist and said it was important to keep re-appearing on tv or popping up somewhere every six months or so or else you would disappear and be forgotten.
I'm just hoping this year's appearance will not be limited to the big or little screen.
