April 15, 200916 yr I suppose that happened for me because I could see him as Rhett as I read the book. Rhett's no angel and neither is Darius but they are good decent people at heart.
April 25, 200916 yr The film had huge media publicity running for years before it opened - all those actors and actresses vying for the role, the negotiations to get Gable from the other studio, the role of Scarlett going to an unknown English actress, the writing and re-writing and even once it started the filming, the sudden change from one director to another - the real life drama was nearly as riveting as Margaret Mitchell's novel! The other pluses the film had was that it was shot at atime when studios paid for casts of hundreds of extras rather than effects. It was filmed lavishly with sweeping geographic backdrops and every scene, every line was shot and re-shot until it was perfect. The only expense spared, was to build the sets without roofs and fill those in later using cinematic trickery. A stage show could never emulate all that and the film's musical score was etched in everyone's mind. I watched the film afterwards but I don't feel the same about it - for me, Clark Gable's performance in key scenes like Bonnie's death, the scene where he carries Scarlett upstairs and his last scene, seem comparatively lacklustre and don't convey the turbulent emotions of the book's Rhett, which I felt so deeply watching Darius on the New London stage. Other Rhetts may come in the future, but Darius was spot on and he'll always be my Rhett Butler. I know I will read GWTW again because I did really enjoy it, although it is a long book. Just read the rest of the thread - strictly speaking Mr Smart is wrong. It was Nigel Lythgoe who gave us Darius Danesh, not Simon Fuller. Darius had already turned down 2 recording contracts and written Colourblind, the song which would go to number 1 in the charts, before anyone had heard of Pop Idol. April 25, 200916 yr I think Darius Danesh would be a name we would have been recognising if he hadn't gone on a talent show. He just wouldn't have all the baggage of negativity which he suffers from now.
April 25, 200916 yr I agree with you there Meg 100%.....Darius would've still been able to make it without PI,as he had already written Coulourblind. All he would've had to do is gone to a record company with his demo(,like he did with Simon Cowel/Nigel lythgo)he wouldn't of had any of this bad press neither, which would've been so much better for him :)
April 25, 200916 yr I think that not doing Popstars would have been more important. Then he wouldn't have met Pete Glenister or Senny Lew, which would have been a shame.
April 25, 200916 yr Author Quote meg - think Darius Danesh would be a name we would have been recognising if he hadn't gone on a talent show. He just wouldn't have all the baggage of negativity which he suffers from now. I did wonder if he might get some support over there as Nigel lythgoe is living there now and surely their paths must cross.
April 25, 200916 yr They have met up and had dinner together. They seem to have a lot of respect for each other.
April 25, 200916 yr ....... Darius also has lunch with Simon too and they also have respect fo eachother and have become great mates too which is really nice! :D
April 25, 200916 yr I think that not doing Popstars would have been more important. Then he wouldn't have met Pete Glenister or Senny Lew, which would have been a shame. ...yeah thats true also Meg,so really its a bit of good and bad on both sides........the most important thing is that Darius has gone on to become a very talented singer/songwriter in his own right :D .......its just such a shame that there are still so many who insist on giving him a hard time!
April 25, 200916 yr Most of whom have no idea what he's like as a performer - or a person come to that.
April 25, 200916 yr ..........Excactly,and thats what makes it that much worse! They have no right to judge him, without even seeing him perform or meeting him in person! His only 'crime' was that performance of ',HMBOMT'......but so what, there are loads of other Stars that have done FAR worse and people act as if the bloody sun shines out of their arse!Darius dosn't deserve this sort of crap treatment, and NEVER has!!
April 25, 200916 yr He had been told he should do something that showed he could move and covered his entire vocal range - which he did do. It made my toes curl though but I never thought to hold the performance against him.
April 28, 200916 yr Please, please, stop living in the past. I'd sooner look forward to more great experiences with D leading the way.
April 28, 200916 yr At the moment we've no idea what that may be, Bramley. Looking back is the only choice unless we are given a clue about the future.
April 28, 200916 yr I think we're all looking back because we are so desperate for news about the future. It's having nothing to look forward to that's so hard. Wish we had a crystal ball. Sue
April 29, 200916 yr I think we're all looking back because we are so desperate for news about the future. It's having nothing to look forward to that's so hard. Wish we had a crystal ball. Sue Excactly Sue :( ...............God, it would be Fantastic if we did have a crystal ball wouldn't it,at least we'd know then!!
April 29, 200916 yr  No we don't and I want some more news NOW! Sorry, I'm never been very patient and I don't seem to be improving with age. Sue
