Posted June 19, 200619 yr Oh hit, they're back Victoria Newton :P the Sun.co.uk NOSTALGIC Eighties pop fans will be delighted. But many music fans will be crying into their cornflakes. Because I can reveal STOCK, AITKEN AND WATERMAN have secretly reformed — and will make their comeback with a new reality TV show. The trio — MIKE STOCK, MATT AITKEN and PETE WATERMAN — were the songwriting and production powerhouse of the Eighties and early Nineties. They launched the careers of KYLIE MINOGUE, JASON DONOVAN, RICK ASTLEY, BANANARAMA, SONIA and PETE BURNS, among others. Their outfit The Hit Factory churned out more than 200 Top 40 UK hits. But things fell apart in the early 90s and the trio ended up in the courts arguing about cash. Pete stayed in the public eye with STEPS and as a Pop Idol judge. Earlier this year Pete lost his eldest son Paul, 33, to a rare brain disease. The tragedy led to a reconciliation between the SAW trio — and a desire to work together again. They released a greatest hits compilation, Gold, and they have spent the last few months plotting their return. The trio have been busy finding new acts and writing new songs. Now Stock, Aitken & Waterman have moved into studios on London’s South Bank. The centrepiece of their comeback will be a TV show along the lines of X Factor and Pop Idol, with them writing and producing the winner’s songs. A source told me: “Pete had a terrible time over the last year with his son’s long-term illness. “He even turned down the chance to be a judge on X Factor because he was nursing Paul. But the sadness has led to a reunion with Mike and Matt. “They have been busy developing their television format and, with their experience and track record, the winner of that contest could end up a huge star. “It is also SAW’s 21st anniversary this year so everything will tie into that. “They reckon the timing’s perfect for a comeback†Love them or hate them, you can’t deny Stock, Aitken And Waterman had a golden touch back in the day. And pop music has been in the doldrums in recent times. Recent X Factor winners STEVE BROOKSTEIN and SHAYNE WARD have been disappointing. I reckon Stock, Aitken And Waterman have got what it takes to create a pop revolution. What do you think?
June 19, 200619 yr if they are half as good when at their peak they will do ok,,,i love them for bringing kylie minogue to us alone
June 19, 200619 yr So pop is on it's way back? That is good in a way I guess Girls Aloud might get a bit of a boost then! Lol
June 19, 200619 yr put girls aloud and stock a w together and then you would have pop,,but that wont happen as pete was againstthem on pop idol the rivals
June 22, 200619 yr Best stuff they did was with Bananarama - I Hear a Rumour, Love in the First Degree and Venus. Also, their Divine single 'You think you're a man' was a classic, and, of course, Dead or Alive's 'You Spin Me Round'.
June 22, 200619 yr kylie was without doubt the best work saw eve came up with,,,dead or alive spin me round was good and they did some good stuff with bananarama also,,but overall kylie was the top of there work
June 22, 200619 yr oh NO! they were responsable for dumbing down pop to the very basic of levels... and produced so much utter tripe they should be hung for it. their 'music' totally lacked any soul, any meaning, any musicianship. they were totally abhorant. i mean... how the hell did they get away with selling the very same product over and over again to the very same 'fans'? they were undoubtedly the worst thing that ever happend to british music, by killing off musicianship, talent, creativity that made our music scene the envy of the world from the early 60's through to the mid 80's. it is no coincidence that record sales (in the old days , pre internet) were at an all time low whenever the charts were swamped with their material.

June 22, 200619 yr WHAT DO YOU THINK WAS THERE best stuff mushy???im interested in opinion on saw as they are loathed in some corners and adored in others,,,,
June 22, 200619 yr weird thing though is not many of ther acts are still around today,,atthe time, kylie minogue, jason donovan, sonia, big fun and rick astley were huge fair enough rick astley walked away from fame from his own decision but the other just faded away although i hear jason donovan is emabrking on a comeback,,,but overall kylie is theonlyone i know who is still big in todays music industry
June 22, 200619 yr WHAT DO YOU THINK WAS THERE best stuff mushy???im interested in opinion on saw as they are loathed in some corners and adored in others,,,, depends upon your age really. those of us who grew up with the beatles, sex pistols eras listend to musicans with something to say. (ok most of punk wasnt musically sound, but it suited the mood) . saw production line made 'stars' out of nobodies, they were puppets singing... or miming, to simple songs aimed at the pre-teen market... music for little girls. i like music that has something to say, a song being sung/played by someone conveying some emotional experience. saw were just the complete oposite, they just mass produced nursery rhymes that dominated the charts, but sold bugger all! id suggest that their earlier works were superior, 'you spin me round' was good pop. but they took that backing track and used it on everything they did afterwards...lol.. its all production but no talent, no creativity, it takes music nowhere, unlike all the other styles/genres that preceeded it.
June 22, 200619 yr I doubt they'll be that successful if their last few attempts at chart success are anything to go by. For Waterman his last two acts were One True Voice and Pop!, both who did sod all. I think Stock's last act was probably the Fast Food Rockers. I think they should stay in the '80s where they belong.
June 22, 200619 yr i agree there last few attempts havent been great successs butthen pete waterman was behind steps and they did very well,,maybe they could create the magic with them al working together,,, i agree about the point where alot of there backing tracks/music was similar,,,, for me pop music is all about fun and a laughand they created many songs to fitthat mole,,i dontthink pop music is meantto be taken seriously,,however fans of the beatles etc would be more into meanigfull music and there saw music is probably c**p in there eyes which is fair enough....
June 22, 200619 yr i think saw did well in there time and made alot of money for themselves and some of there stars,,but i feel pete watermen could be greddy big headed big,,,what he did with one true voice wasnt the ebst,,fair enough there music was c**p but pete didnt put much energy in to them,,if he had put as much work into one true voice as louis walshe did with girls aloud the boys could also be still around today
June 22, 200619 yr but the one thing i found awful about pete watermanwas the way he treated michelle mc manus because she was skinny,,,michelle had a good voice and deserved to iwn pop idol like she did,,pete walking out of the studio in a sulk was very insulting to her,,it was a show that viwers decided on and pete knew that and he reacted very childish when the votes didnt go the way he wanted
June 22, 200619 yr Author but the one thing i found awful about pete watermanwas the way he treated michelle mc manus because she was skinny,,,michelle had a good voice and deserved to iwn pop idol like she did,,pete walking out of the studio in a sulk was very insulting to her,,it was a show that viwers decided on and pete knew that and he reacted very childish when the votes didnt go the way he wanted I (can't believe I'm doing this but I) have to defend Pete Waterman over this. Pete Waterman turned against Michelle McManus after her best mate in the show (was it Rochelle) & her tried successfully to stitch up the then favourite of PopIdol2 - Suzanne Manning, by concocting a story about Suzanne being rude to school children & not signing autographs, etc which made the newspapers. This untrue story successfully undermined Suzanne's popularity with the public & performances on the show & she was eliminated in 5th place. That is why Pete Waterman walked out when she won, because he believed she cheated. It is no coincidence that after she won PI2 Simon Cowell had the same enthusiasm in her career as he did with Steve Brookstein. Also Pete Waterman was similarly critical of Sarah Harding in PopStars: The Rivals, which now makes perfect sense to any of you who watched E4 Girls Aloud's documentary series.
June 22, 200619 yr i had never heard that story before to be honest so maybe i was harsh in my post,,,i actually liked suzanne that year and i didnt realise anything like that happened,, how did michelle start all that up though was it definitkly to do with here as it seems very out of charactor for her
June 22, 200619 yr kylie was without doubt the best work saw eve came up with,,,dead or alive spin me round was good and they did some good stuff with bananarama also,,but overall kylie was the top of there work totally wrong... their best work was, as I said, with Bananarama, Divine and Dead or Alive. These were all WAY before they employed Charlene from Neighbours (aka Kylie), who only used them because a) she'd been told to and B) because they'd had such a clutch of great pop singles with Bananarama. The SAW years were Kylie's worst music-wise anyway.
