United's domination of the domestic season so far is further underlined by the PFA's shortlists for the Player and Young Player of the Year awards.

The Barclays Premier League leaders, Carling Cup winners and FA Cup semi-finalists occupy all but one of the nominations for the PFA Players' Player of the Year. There are five Reds in the running - goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar, defenders Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic and attacking midfielders Ryan Giggs and Cristiano Ronaldo. The only opposition player on the six-strong shortlist is Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard.

One third of the PFA Players' Young Player of the Year nominees play for United - namely right-back Rafael and centre-back Jonny Evans. The other four contenders are Aston Villa's Gabriel Agbonlahor and Ashley Young, Manchester City midfielder Stephen Ireland or Tottenham Hotspur's Aaron Lennon.

The news that so many Reds have been recognised by their fellow professionals can only boost confidence as United prepare to take on Porto in the Champions League quarter-final second leg. Hopefully most, if not all, of the seven short-listed players will be available for selection at Estadio do Dragao on Wednesday night, including Ferdinand who has missed the last three games with a groin injury.

He won't come in the top 3

Ronaldo's the favourite, for some strange reason

Ryan Giggs will win it, though

1st - Giggs, 2nd - Vidic, 3rd - Ronaldo

Of course he'll come top 3. For a start he's guarenteed a vote off every single member of the Man Utd squad as you're not allowed to vote for a member of your own team. And then just like in 1999 Man Utd players will suffer from the split vote. There's no way Gerrard won't be top 3.
I don't think he should win, but I think he will. As long as Giggs doesn't win. I'm sorry but 11 starts and 7 90 minutes worth PLAYER OF THE SEASON?!

Gerrard will win it. How Alonso hasn't been nomintated is perplexing.

Ireland or Young will win the Young Players Award too.

^ Mature.

Gerrard is guaranteed a top 3 position imo, though i expect Edwin may win..

I think the fact Manchester United have 5 of the 6 nominations for player of the season highlights the fact they should have already wrapped up the Premiership by now.

The very fact that they have not is a damning inditement of the manager and the players whom despite having by a long way the best squad in the Premiership they have under performed.

Whilst I find it bizarre how Ryan Giggs has been nominated when he has played so few games; and C Ronaldo has when he has been very poor compared to last season; yet two of the three best Man Utd players this season Rooney & Carrick have not.

Obviously I think Vidic should win for his defensive masterclasses all season, and the way he kept Torres quiet at Old Trafford!

Personally I think Stephen Ireland deserves to win the Young player of the Year for his outstanding performances in a mediocre team with the lazy selfish waste of money Robinho (any other season and Berbatov would be getting all the stick as the worst signing of the season).

you're such a stupid mong, Keane's the worst signing of the season.

if Berbatov's surname was Heysel, i think you'd love him abit more, as you lot never seem to shut up about these 'tragedys'

True post. How Ronaldo is nominated over someone like Alonso (best Liverpool player this season imo) i'll never know.

Lennon should be young player of the year infact he should have been on the list for player of the year

Aaron Lennon is still one of the most inconsistant wingers in the Premiership. He's not fit to lace Ashley Young's boots, and I think he's vastly overrated!
