last year barely any of the ESC songs dented the charts, a huge factor to this was the official compilation not being put onto download sites such as iTunes, meaning that the couple of songs that charted (Kalomira/Sebastien Tellier) were due to individual digital single downloads. Luckily, this year the situation looks a lot better and already most of the favourites (and a few others are on there) so fingers crossed some of them can have chart success this year *cough*Fairytale for No.1*cough*. These ones are currently on UK iTunes at least:

Andorra: Susanna Georgi - La Teva Decisió

Azerbaijan: Aysel & Arash - Always

Cyprus: Christina Metaxa - Firefly

Denmark: Brinck - Believe Again

Finland: Waldo's People - Lose Control

France: Patricia Kaas - Et S'il Faillait Le Faire

Greece: Sakis Rouvas - This Is Our Night

Netherlands: De Toppers - Shine

Norway: Alexander Rybak - Fairytale

Poland: Lidia Kopania - I Don't Wanna Leave

Spain: Soraya - La Noche Es Para Mi

Sweden: Malena Ernman - La Voix

Switzerland: Lovebugs - The Highest Heights

Turkey: Hadise - Dum Tek Tek

do we reckon any/a lot of these will dent the iTunes top 300 around ESC period?

I hope so. I could see Cyprus, Denmark, Norway and Switzerland (my fave right now, will update ranking soon) being hits here, and I wouldn't put it past Sakis either...

Denmark and Switzerland's songs are exactly the type of thing UK commercial radio stations play all day every day and would hardly sound out of place on the radio

but you just know due to Eurovision snobbery, they won't even get a look in :(

Totally true. I thought of saying it, but to be honest, I thought it went without saying

For the record, Denmark is finally growing on me. Thing is, I forgot why I hated Ronan Keating :heehee:

I really see La Voix climbing to the Top 75. Would like also, surely, Norway to have their own place on the chart

Opera? French? Europop? UK charts?

*head explodes*

I could see Finland doing well, though that's probably wishful thinking on my behalf. Other than that, I agree that Denmark, Greece and Switzerland seem to be the most 'chart-friendly'.

Greece certainly will, and I won't be surprised if Turkey do too. If Alexander Rybak gives a good performance on the night he will easily crack the top 75 too, and I wouldn't totally discount Sweden either! Denmark... perhaps if the Boyzone fans are on a downloading spree, but I can't see Switzerland launching an assault on the charts in all honesty.

Oh yes, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if Finland or Azerbaijan did ok here too. Lots of the most commercial sounding songs in that short list!

TBH I hate Azerbaijan. Cheapest thing ever, and Arash's voice is awful. I just got the remixes of Andorra :kink:

Greece 2008 did really well in the charts here last year. It's still 36th in the World music charts on iTunes. :heehee:

I can see Turkey doing well, and possibly Norway as the "popularity" bar beside the song is full on the Irish iTunes. :P

I'm not sure that means anything. It was for Switzerland earlier in the UK, and I can't see that even going top 300.

Hate his voice as well :puke: Aysel is EPIC though. Especially live

the full album is on UK iTunes already :o shame that most of the (good) tracks are 'album only', but at least they can be purchased from elsewhere on iTunes (hope's that people actually search for them in May rather than assuming they aren't available)
Thanks God it's not 'Copycat is #1 is on Turkish I-Tunes' :heehee:

Well, Hadise is already massive in Belgium, so expect a non-diasporically motivated 12 for Turkey this year! :o :cheer:

Switzerland will do well (i.e. top 75 ;_;) if Radio 2 adopt it without mentioning the ESC as they often do for BWO...

I agree, I hope we get at least one of the Melodifestivalen entries released in the UK this year, smart money's on Higher by Star Pilots as the follow up to In The Heat Of The Night...

the one that most needs to come out and with proper promo is quite obviously Stay The Night  Hope & Glory is too schlagery to be a UK hit, Snalla Snalla just wouldn't be for obvious reasons  Baby Goodbye could do alright, I'm not sure how E.M.D. could be marketed here though  You're My World would actually go down fairly well on Radio 2/commercial radio I would have thought :o

Presumably in women's and gay magazines, naked :kink:
