Dave, do you know the difference between numbers 2 and 3 (La Roux and Lady Gaga) in the singles?

This is the one where I say something clever and say...the difference is they are different songs! Oh Ben, you walked into that one! :w00t:

Lady GaGa and La Roux only have about 900 between them. See if we took away GaGa`s physical La Roux would be #2! The physicals of La Roux have never been brill, and I don`t think they made the physical top ten at all!

Off to the UK Eurovision Preview Party tonight :w00t: Can you tell me if Jade Ewen - Its My Time (our fantastic entry) or the official compilation of all this years entries, have registered on ore-orders at all yet? Thanks!

No sign of Jade, but the Comp is holding it`s own in the pre-order Combined top 30.

A lot of sales for TAKE ME BACK are from the NOW 72 album downloads, though. So that explains that one.

Anyhoo, amazing to see Calvin will retain his title and I really hope La Roux can secure top 2, they deserve a #2 peak at the least and next week there is a possibility we could have a complete clearout of the top 3 if there are sufficient climbs from Green Day and Eminem, and if Tinchy delivers properly (I hope he does xP).

More channels, the internet, streaming/catch up services, DVD is cheap and high quality. Also people playing games etc on their TV instead. Its all effected it take your pick really. No longer just 5 channels to choose from! (or 3 in those days! :o)

Thanks for that

Yes Martin, can do that. Have go to the other PC for that though, so hang on. That one is 2 sections split into Non Fiction/Fiction.

I know this doesn't add much to discussion...but UGH La Roux.

I concur.

Thank god she'll never get #01 at least.

Thanks Dave :D Had a fantastic night, this years show will be awesome and I think from last nights evidence, it's Ukraine's year again!

Dave, regarding the Brian & Michael Single being No.1 in BMRB, but not reaching the Top

in 'NME' & 'Melody Maker'.....

Here are its Top 30 Positions in those 3 Charts:.

'Matchstalk Men & Matchstalk Cats & Dogs' - Brian & Michael (1978)

BMRB - 18 - 10 - 3 - 4 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 2 - 3 - 6 - 17 - 28

NME - 15 - 9 - 4 - 5 - 4 - 4 - 4 - 6 - 12 - 22

MM - 28 - 14 - 13 - 4 - 4 - 6 - 2 - 3 - 9 - 7 - 14 - 27

Here are those for 'Baker Street' by Gerry Rafferty (1978):,

BMRB - 28 - 14 - 8 - 6 - 4 - 3 - 4 - 3 - 8 - 9 - 17 - 30

NME - 27 - 13 - 10 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 2 - 5 - 6 - 10 - 20

MM - 28 - 14 - 8 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 3 - 2 - 3 - 9 - 18 - 26

So, 'Baker Street' was not No.1 in any of the 3 Charts.

Around the same time saw a Blondie Hit reach No.1 in 2 of the Charts

- But not in BMRB:,

'Denis' - Blondie (1978)

BMRB - 11 - 5 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 2 - 5 - 10 - 20

NME - 18 - 4 - 2 - 2 - 1 - 1 - 3 - 10 - 17 - 28

MM - 30 - 17 - 4 - 2 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 3 - 9 - 18 - 24

MM - 30 - 17 - 4 - 2 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 3 - 9 - 18 - 24

That's interesting to know, they could have had another #1 hit there on the BRMB chart in those days.

Thanks for those. Certainly (from memory), the end of year figures for "Baker Street", and "Denis" were very close. Baker Street made it to #1 for 2 weeks on the Record Business Magazine top 40. The Chart (sales based in the top 30, from 1st Apr 78) also showed Denis at the top in the first issue. Brian And Michael at #4. Maybe down to the panel of shops surveyed! I certainly remember the BBC plugging Brian And Michael all the time. Independant Radio would not touch it!

Brian and Michael making number one on the BBC / BMRB chart was most likely down to Woolworths providing sales information to that chart compiler and none of the others. I'd imagine it was the type of record that would have sold better in the likes of Woolworths as it would have appealed to a broader age range of record buyers.

Added to that, the sales week Brian and Michael fell from 3 to 4 included Good Friday and Easter Saturday, this may have had some effect on this type of record which traditionally sold better on a Friday and Saturday. Also only the BMRB chart (from BMRB, NME and MM) had a sales week that could fully reflect the influence of TOTP, again this may have helped this song to stay at the top if it got older record buyers into Woolies on a Saturday...

A good explanation Robbie. Thinking too, that Record Business/MRIB only covered that Mon - Thurs sales period thus losing Fri/Sat sales totally!
