The Spice Girls

The reason? There are so many reasons, the most important to me, they did the best tour that a girl band has done ever.

Neither Sugababes or Girls Aloud. Tbh not any of them bar TLC are decent.
Why has this poll which was about the best of today's girl groups become about the best of all time?

Favorite Girl Band for me is 'Aly & AJ'

they are not an option though :P

TLC, and I'm not particularly a big fan of theirs.

The rest are just utter shite.

Just now - it's Client, without a shadow of a doubt, their new album "Command" is superb and people who rate Lady Ga Ga, Ladytron or Goldfrapp should really give it a listen (if they can bloody find it that is, it's been put out on a German dance label called Out of Line and is only available on import in the UK  ).... And, no, I dont give a sh!t if they're not on the poll or not, they are MY favourite Girl Band, simple as, in terms of their music (extremely classy Electronic/Synth Pop, a more contemporary version of stuff like Visage, Human League, Depeche Mode, Tubeway Army), their style, attitude and the fact that they are by far the most talented 'Girl Band' out there, imo.... Client have real "Girl Power", they write and produce their own albums, and they frankly deserve to be a hell of lot bigger than they are (although they do well in Germany, France and Scandinavia)..... Hope that's enough of a reason for y'all......

Of all-time...? Probably The Runaways.... A quartet of LA Rock Chicks from the mid-70s who basically gave rise to the likes of Blondie, The Go Gos, The Bangles and others.... Their number included Joan Jett and Lita Ford both of whom had successful solo careers..... And, again, I dont care that they aint on the list..... :P

Why's that a bad thing....? Pop music and Girl Bands existed before Y2K you know..... -_- Nowt wrong with branching it out a bit IMO....

Yes, but as you well know an awful lot if not the majority of posters on Buzzjack have narrow tastes in music meaning that they hero worship the likes of the talent free zone that is the Cheryl Cole's of the world and Girls Aloud (ignoring the fact that unlike The Spice Girls they are manufactured puppets of the brilliant Brian Higgins Xenomania production/songwriting team with little input into their own material).

I mean given the choice between listening to a Rihanna album or watch BBC4's rare airing of Kate Bush's 1979 Xmas Special tonight; I think we know what the overwhelming majority would do.

Question: Why else are shows like Big Brother, Britain's Got Talent & X-Factor successful?

Answer: Because too many people today are happy to be zombie force fed mediocrity with a sob story thanks to the likes of Endemol; Simon Cowell; Max Clifford & Rupert Murdoch Inc who make in retrospect Joseph Goebbels seem like a clueless amateur at propaganda.

Anyway, a local band who anyone who follows music in my local area (Wiltshire) have high hopes of getting signed to a major record & becoming the next big thing are a powerpop girlgroup trio who have been played on nightime Radio 1 & Radio 6 Music who have supported the likes of Babyshambles; the Dirty Pretty Things & the Kaiser Chiefs:

The Shebeats - Under My Skin

This is all very true Rich, but bear in mind also, the seemingly unstoppable force that is Lady Ga Ga... She sure is hell aint no Cheryl Cole or Frankie Sandford... She's a talented, classically trained, popular SINGER SONGWRITER who just happens to be a "Pop Star"... she is POP in capital letters, as opposed to manufactured sh!t, a real character and will probably be regarded as one of Pop's greats in 20 years time when the likes of Cole and Sandford are LONG forgotten..... Ga Ga goes on about how Bach (I mean, BACH ffs..... ) is an influence on her songwriting.... Cheryl Cole probably thinks "Bach" is the sound a dog from Liverpool makes.... So, it it can happen for Ga Ga, why the hell not for the likes of Client....?

I just could not vote for any of the girl groups listed......Where are The Ronnettes, Martha and the Vandellas, The Runaways???? Those 3 I just listed are better than what's on the list.....let's not forget The Shangri-La's, either.....

I'd have voted for The Runaways......

The Shebeats - Under My Skin

Cool.... Just so long as they dont try to shamelessly rip off Depeche Mode like some other fledgling girl bands who shall remain nameless (**cough** Red Blooded Women **cough cough** Saturdays **cough**) with cr@p covers.....

I agree. As I posted hear when defending her after the Jonathan Ross interview:

Personally, I found it hilarious how some members criticised her for her behaviour; when if there were more popstars characters today like her with their own personality and not PR'd to death out of them (like there was in the 1970s & first half of the 1980s); then pop music would be a lot more interesting today and not being outsold by DVDs and computer console games.

Johnathan Ross is a total dick, and he always was, he rode in on the coat-tails of Alternative Comedy/Saturday Live/Ben Elton/The Tube like a very bad smell in the 80s and he just got more and more irritating, his taking over from Barry Norman on the Film Night prog just prompted me to stop watching it, and I never have again tbh, even Mark Kermode would've been a better choice to replace the legendary "Bazza".... His absolutely filthy advances on Gwynneth Paltrow just made my skin crawl tbh, and he almost certainly goaded Russell Brand into "upping the ante" on that whole "Sachsgate" thing.... His rather sexist, letcherous reputation is probably what made GaGa a bit guarded and aloof towards him, I cant blame her really, she's still a young girl and she probably didn't want Ross getting "too close" (all things considered, who can blame her? He's a bit of a dirty old man let's face it), her attitude on Paul O Grady and Breakfast Time was rather different, I actually think her demeanour is rather charming and sweet.... I absolutely despise Ross with a passion though, and would warmly shake him by the throat if I ever met him... <_< As far as I'm concerned, both him and Moyles should've been chucked out of the BBC LONG ago.....

I went with the Sugababes and Booty Luv, but I agree that Booty Luv shouldn't be in this list. :))
  • 2 months later...

Loved the Sugababes the other day at Ponty in the Park! Alex Roots was there too and absolutely owned the stage!

TLC

Danity Kane

Girls Aloud

Destiny's Child

The rest I don't care for minus a song or two.
