TOP OF THE POPS

You've probably seen pictures of Christina being all classy and '50s recently, so you'd be forgiven for expecting her comeback track to be some kind of mature ballad, as befits a woman who's become comfortable in a twin-set.

True to form, the track opens with some jazzy vibes. But then it gets a bit funky. And then Ms. Aguilera slips on her leopard skin stilettos, exposes her thighs in a wanton fashion (in our minds) and belts out another stone cold classic.

There's a bombastic beat, there's a brass section, there are badass hip-shakin' super stylin's. Be warned, Charlotte Church, that crown you've been keeping warm is ready to return to its original owner.

Christina Aguilera

3 1/2 stars

"Ain't No Other Man"

The first singles from Christina Aguilera's forthcoming Back To Basics album, "Ain't No Other Man" is hard-grooving, smitten retro-soul: DJ Premier's beat is all glossy James Brown funk, and Aguilera sounds more like Chaka Khan than any post-Mariah belter. Her punch-and-jab verses, wordy chours and amped-up Seventies sass give the song serious momentum: it's catchy, it's rousing and, as dance-pop throwbacks go, it's eight times better than that "Lady Marmalade" remake.

You know how Britney married a hot, unwashed dude and immediately killed her career? Well, Xtina married a schlumpy accountant or something and immediately cut her hottest track ever; this horn-and-break-beat-powered Chaka-licious party jam. That accountant must be packin'!

i think thats a VERY good review from them!! :yahoo:

It is a very good review... but as Allysa has already expressed, the mention of Britney was a bit wrong.

Yeah I guess you're right, but it annoys both sets of fans, i'm ready for 'em though. :P

Her hubby sure is "taming" her a bit.

If she releases Still Dirrty then we will see if he has. :P

from some magazine/newspaper:

(4 out of five stars)

It's impossible to deny that Christina Aguilera makes some great pop songs, and her first single post-marriage, 'Ain't No Other Man', is no exception. It's straight in from the off, bouncing drums in the background and her exceptional (as usual) vocals matching. Taking a slightly more poppy approach than other recent work - and including some clever jazz samples along the way - she doesn't hesitate to show off her voice, and with the talent she's got, who could blame her?

It's all fun, no-frills, and sure to hit the Top Five at least.

'Ain't No Other Man' is released as a single through RCA on 31st July 2006.

I think it has good strong vocals in the song, but I wouldn't say the song primarily showcases Christina's vocals, but then again look at Genie In A Bottle, that wasn't about the vocals!

Christina Aguilera - Ain't No Other Man (RCA)

UK release date: 31 July 2006

Poor old Britney. She marries a wannabe rap star, and goes from being one of the most famous pop stars on the planet to the sort of trailer trash more usually seen on the Jerry Springer Show. Meanwhile, her arch-rival Christina Aguilera gets married and returns with one of the best pop singles of the year so far.

From the opening bursts of brass it's clear that Ain't No Other Man is one of those singles that make you sit up and take notice. There's a jazzy, retro feel to the track that's a long way from Dirrty, but shows Aguilera's voice off to its best possible advantage. She does come a bit too close at times to Mariah Carey-style histrionics, but it's just a good, hook-filled song that you don't really notice.

Even the rather cheesy lyrics, an obvious declaration of fidelity to the new Mr Aguilera, can be overlooked - this is a fine return from one of the most interesting pop stars out there right now.

There was a great one in one of our local papers, but it's not online. <_<
