April 27, 200916 yr It could be that 2009 could bring the most 'straight in at number 1' singles out of these years.
April 27, 200916 yr it's certainly becoming more commonplace again, which was always to be expected as the format became more popular the only songs that really can climb up to No.1 are very slow burners like Poker Face, or second/third singles from albums already available to purchase (i.e. Poker Face again)... most UK No.1 singles are from brand new artists, or comeback/lead singles so it's obvious that pent up demand will reward them with a No.1 single
April 28, 200916 yr Several of these tracks *weren't* instant #1's : Westlife - Rose #143 11/11/06 Lily Allen - Fear #168 31/1/09 Kelly C - MLWSWI #103 28/2/09
April 28, 200916 yr Several of these tracks *weren't* instant #1's : Westlife - Rose #143 11/11/06 Lily Allen - Fear #168 31/1/09 Kelly C - MLWSWI #103 28/2/09 But *officially* we only have a top 100 (people say its 75 but it's actually 100) so anything that charts 100+ then rises to 1 doesn't count.
April 29, 200916 yr But *officially* we only have a top 100 (people say its 75 but it's actually 100) so anything that charts 100+ then rises to 1 doesn't count. But in Lily's case, she actually sold more than enough to go T100, but the OCC excluded some of her sales for some spurious reason...
