Posted June 21, 200619 yr how many people is he performing to this year? lt must be heading towards 4 million now :cheer: . A bummer that the UK press ignore it isn't it? He is mega for flip sake! Robbie William's gig forces, Lions must play Asian Cup clash at Jalan Besar By Jose Raymond, TODAY Singapore News http://www.channelnewsasia.com/imagegallery/store/php8jst3p.jpg In what could be a major blow to Singapore’s 2007 Asian Cup dreams, the Lions will not play their final, and possibly crucial, Asian Cup qualifier against Palestine at the 60,000-seater National Stadium on Nov 15. They will now play the match at the 6,000-seater Jalan Besar Stadium. Why? Because the Singapore Sports Council (SSC) have asked the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) to give up their booking of the National Stadium, which they made in January, so that British superstar Robbie Williams can hold a concert at the venue on Nov 18. In response to TODAY’S queries, the SSC’s chief of facilities Lim Eng Khoon said: “This was a difficult decision for SSC as we fully support sports and international mega entertainment events that create vibrancy at our facilities. “After much deliberation, we made this decision based on optimising our pool of limited resources as well as finding the best solution that will benefit all Singaporeans - having both a football match and an international mega event. “Singapore was not one of the stops on Robbie Williams’ Asian tour, but we were able to secure a one night only performance after some negotiations with the organisers who had requested to use the National Stadium. “The SSC have been in discussions with the FAS on this matter and it is truly unfortunate that both event dates fall within the same period and cannot be changed. “Sports and international mega entertainment events will feature strongly in the calendar line-up for SSC’s facilities, especially in the new Sports Hub. This will be a happy problem whereby we will be spoilt for choice to select which events will be held in the new facilities at the Sports Hub — especially the new 55,000-seater stadium.†Williams’ Singapore stop is the third after dates in Hong Kong and Thailand. When contacted, Midas Promotions managing director Michael Hoskins, the promoters of the concert, said Williams’ Singapore date was only confirmed on June 10. He added that the organisers needed about five days to prepare the stage for the mega-concert. Football officials were naturally peeved when told of the developments. Singapore’s technical director P N Sivaji said: “I am very disappointed with the decision, especially since the FAS had made a booking for the venue well in advance. It does not help the development of Singapore football. It also deprives the fans from coming out to cheer Singapore on especially in a tight group that could go all the way to the wire.†National coach Radojko Avramovic added: “If it goes right to the end, the boys should play in a fantastic atmosphere with as many fans behind them as possible.†The FAS tried to have the date of the fixture changed, but the Asian Football Confederation turned down the request. Depending on the results of Singapore’s double bill against China in August and September and an away tie against Iraq on Oct 11, the match against Palestine could well be the Lions’ decider.
June 22, 200619 yr Author Robbie to S'pore: Let me entertain you By Sonia K http://www.brudirect.com/DailyInfo/News/Archive/June06/220606/22pic42.jpg British pop singer Robbie Williams, who rocked the Guinness Book of World Records for selling the most concert tickets - 1.6 million - in 24 hours, during the European leg of his World Tour, "Robbie Williams: Close Encounters", in November 2005, is set to end the Asian part of the tour in Singapore. Williams' concert promoter in Singapore Michael Hosking on June 19 announced that "the world's favourite entertainer and most dynamic showman ever seen" would perform at Singapore National Stadium on November 18. The pop idol will also perform in Thailand and Hong Kong for the first time in five years, and India and China for the first time ever. According to a press release from Midas Promotions, Robbie Williams looks set to ignite the famous "Kallang roar", with plans underway for a demolition, during what is tipped to be the biggest music event held in Singapore this millennium. Hosking said Singapore "is expected to join the ticket-selling phenomenon already experienced in every territory where Robbie Williams' concert has gone on sale". Despite a 75,000-seat capacity, Robbie Williams had no problem filling up the arena during his five London shows. And the list goes on: Leeds concert sold out in 90 minutes, Holland concert in 89 minutes, Australia's five shows in a matter of hours and Dubai concert in less than two hours, as well as getting 20,000 German fans to brave the cold in the streets of Munich recently, awaiting tickets to go on sale at midnight. To cope with unprecedented demands, tickets to Singapore concert will go on sale for three days only, from June 19 to June 21. "The last time Robbie staged a concert in Singapore in 2001, all 10,000 tickets were sold out in a few days. The show was fantastic and we anticipate a similar ticket sale trend, especially given the fact how spectacular this show is and how his fan base has increased ten-fold in the last five years," said Hosking. Record-breaking ticket sales are expected. "This is a rare occasion. Singapore will get the exact concert that has been seen in traditionally-bigger concert markets," added Hosking. Meanwhile, Singapore Tourism Board director Oliver Chong said, "Singapore is looking forward to an electrifying performance by the showman and iconic pop personality. The city has always been a must-stop destination for many of the world's best acts in the performing arts and music scene and we are excited to welcome Robbie Williams back, as well as his fans in the region." "Robbie Williams: Close Encounters" began in Dublin on June 9, and 14 countries and 44 dates later, will reach the finishing line in Australia later in the year. The pop sensation recently disclosed to Australia's Herald Sun that he will not be touring for a long time after his world tour concludes. Meanwhile, Robbie's fans outside Singapore can take full advantage of low budget carriers, reasonable hotel rates and shopping opportunities in Singapore by purchasing tickets at www.sistic.com.
