BBC SPORT / PORT VALE

Former Port Vale player Peter Swan has said if he got the vacant manager's job he would "make" millionaire fan Robbie Williams put more money into the club.

Swan is keen on becoming the Valiants' next boss and believes his friendships with the pop star and darts legend Phil Taylor could prove fruitful for Vale.

"I'd like to think I can get Robbie and The Power (Taylor) involved.

"I'd tell them: 'We're in it together, let's take this club back to where it belongs'," Swan told BBC Radio Stoke.

"I've got my coaching badges and I'd love to put my CV in and have a chat," the 42-year-old former Vale defender said.

"I was talking to them (Taylor and Williams) and they're interested in getting more involved.

"They could play a massive part getting Vale back to where they should be.

"I'd make them - I'd be knocking on their doors, they're still Vale fans.

"There's too many people scared of upsetting people. They need someone to grab them and give them a kick up the backside."

Swan, who played for Leeds, Hull, Plymouth, Burnley and York, made 139 appearances for the Valiants in the 90s.

The club are to appoint a successor to Dean Glover, who was relieved of his duties last week.

:o Jupsy says- Don't do it Robbie. You're short of cash remember!

EMI Music Earnings Triple To $246 Million

May 07, 2009 - Global

By Andre Paine, London

EMI Music has increased EBITDA to £163 million ($246 million) for the year ending March 2009, an increase of 219.6% on the 2007-2008 EBITDA of £51 million ($77 million).

The earnings increase at the recorded music division occurred during the first full year of ownership by private equity firm Terra Firma, which introduced a major reorganization of the business.

In a statement, the major said that EBITDA growth was driven by a cost-cutting process that saw a £48 million ($72.4 million) year-on-year reduction in the cost of returns, cost management which has now been embedded at EMI Music and overhead savings from the restructuring. EMI says it is on track to deliver the £200 million ($301.85 million) of cost savings earmarked at the time of the acquisition in August 2007.

Net sales increased 4% to £1.07 billion ($1.62 billion), although there was a 10% decline if currency fluctuations were excluded, "slightly more than the contraction in the overall market," according to the company statement. EMI Music said that it broadly maintained market share at approximately 9.5% (9.7% in the prior year), while U.S. market share was up 1.5 percentage points.

The major said it has started to "rejuvenate its creative output" and named its 2008 best-seller as Coldplay's "Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends" - the biggest-selling global release of the year, according to the IFPI. Other strong sellers included albums by Katy Perry, Lily Allen, Darius Rucker and Herbert Grönemeyer.

Depeche Mode's "Sounds of the Universe" was cited as an early, strong performer in this financial year and EMI Music said its release schedule for 2009 includes new sets by Air, Alice in Chains, Corinne Bailey Rae, Beastie Boys, Gorillaz, David Guetta, Norah Jones, Massive Attack, Kylie Minogue, Willie Nelson, 30 Seconds to Mars, KT Tunstall, Keith Urban and Robbie Williams, as well as the Beatles reissues.

EMI Music has also been working develop new revenue streams to counter the market decline in physical sales, and today it reported that non-physical sales (including digital and licensing) represented more than 35% of EMI Music's income compared to 20% in the prior year.

"I am very pleased we have delivered this strong operating performance and would like to thank all the staff and artists whose talent, creativity and hard work made it possible," said Elio Leoni-Sceti, chief executive of EMI Music, in a statement.

"These results are an important first step in building EMI's future. We cannot afford to be complacent, however, since there is still a great deal of work to be done to restore EMI to its former greatness and we are doing it in the face of challenging economic conditions. Looking ahead we have some exciting new releases coming up, a much deeper understanding of the music consumer and a new engaged relationship with our artists to build on. Now it has established this platform, EMI can look to the future with confidence and optimism."

The company also generated operating cash flow of £190 million ($286.4 million) during the year, in contrast to the cash outflow of £142 million ($214 million) it recorded in 2008. The business generated free cash flow of £58 million ($87.4 million), before costs incurred as a result of the restructuring.

All figures are unaudited.

This one seems very strange (if it turns out to be true  ). How to win friends and influence people. NOT.

Williams clashes with cancer bosses

Posted: Monday 11 May 2009

British pop star ROBBIE WILLIAMS has threatened to sue charity bosses over their plans to use a lookalike of him in a testicular cancer ad campaign.

National Testicular Cancer Awareness campaign sponsor Marc Gavin claims Williams was asked to join a string of celebrities in an ad to encourage men to regularly check themselves for signs of cancer - but he refused.

And when Gavin asked if he could use a lookalike instead, the star's lawyer sent him a threatening email.

Furious Gavin says, "I'm astonished by the appalling attitude of Robbie's management company, particular as the campaign is designed to save lives by giving people vital information about Testicular Cancer.

"We have over 30 other top celebrities taking part and we asked Robbie's PR if she could ask Robbie if he would give us 15 minutes of his time to take part in the campaign shoot. She said he would not take part.

"So we asked if we could use a lookalike instead. The answer was no to that as well. The next thing we knew we had received an email from Sheridans, Robbie's solicitors, threatening us with legal action and injunctions to stop us using the lookalike's image."

Gavin is now searching for a new star to replace Williams in the print campaign.

I think the source of that story may be a gay porno site or something similar .... :o ...

How do you feel about a day out in court <_<

Star magazine ????

I'm sure I've bought that

Anyway, as I said in my original post, I'm not convinced this story is true. Why would he do that, particularly given his involvement with the same cancer awareness thing in the past?

It's double tops for Robbie

ROBBIE WILLIAMS has a new album on the horizon and I can think of 180 famous faces he could grant the first listen.

But I well and truly missed the bullseye with my guesses.

Darts champ PHIL “THE POWER” TAYLOR has been handed the honour of sizing up Rob’s latest effort.

And on a flying visit to Bizarre HQ he told me it’s double tops.

said: “I was in LA earlier this year with Robbie and his dad Pete.

“We were sat around in his living room drinking tea and Rob got his laptop out and played the album.

“I loved it. I thought it was excellent. It sounded like it had a bit of Rudebox about it.

On target ... Phil Taylor loved new album

“There was one song that sounded like Lovelight. That is one of my favourites of his.

“He sang over the top of some of the tracks as I was sat there with his old man.

“I have known Rob since he was a little boy. Pete is a good friend. They are lovely blokes.

“I’m going down to see Robbie in his Wiltshire home soon.”

If the new stuff sounds like Rudebox, Phil might want to advise Rob to get back in the studio.

Hope to goodness he doesn't mean Rudebox the single :o    :o :o
