I'm in a really eurovisiony mood at the moment, so I want to know what songs you think are underrated and overrated, songs you think deserve more props than they're getting and songs that you think are getting way too much attention.

Underrated

I think Malta's song is kinda underrated, there doesn't seem to be much talk about it but it's a really strong song imo.

Overrated

Imo Norway is quite overrated, I think the song is nice enough and the music is quite catchy but I don't get the absolute passionate love towards it.

Having said that it will most likely do very well in the contest and probably win but I still feel it's a load of hubbub over what's just a nice song.

Which songs do you think deserve more attention and which ones do you think shouldn't be getting as much attention? :)

Underrated: Ukraine, Slovakia, Iceland and Albania probably.

Overrated: Azerbaijan :(

France is ridiculously overrated, nowhere near the quality of Divine from last year so I fail to see why this is such a fan favourite

Slovenia's song is contemporary traditional, a bit like Fairytale and La Voix but there is absolutely no hype over it whatsover and it's fantastic, yet drifting at 200/1 in some odds...

Oh yeah, Slovenia, Cyprus and Hungary grew on me in the past few days. Slovenia is extremely excellent and, unfortunately, underrated this year!

I think Albania is hugely underrated too, infact I'd love to see them win it. Only problem is the staging of it all so far is dullll, just Kejsi wandering around. Estonia, aswell - people acknowledge that it's good, but it doesn't seem to be winning material :(

I can agree that Norway is overrated, but maybe because I've heard it so many times. I do remember how much I loved it on my first listen, so maybe it IS that good and I've overplayed it.

I agree about Norway - trouble is he doesn't have a very strong voice, and I don't think it's a song people would listen to outside of a Eurovision context. It's good though, and I'm sure it will place top 3 at least.

I think Iceland is slightly underrated, I could see it walking away with the whole thing. Ditto Ukraine, if it can get at least some jury votes. Slovakia just came out in an English version which is beautiful, if they performed it at least partly that way, they will at least qualify...

^I agree about Slovakia.

Well, TBH having played Fairytale more than 100 times according to my last.fm+plays from my player (about 200 times in total :o ) I think i've overplayed it! I don't even want to listen to it and skip it about half of the times it comes on, just to compare, along with the Begium entry which i have heard only about 1 minute of

Underrated - Iceland, and to a certain extent Ireland.

Overrated - Greece, Montenegro, and Norway. I love Norway's entry, but it's got so much publicity that it could fall flat on its face in the final.

Everyone was all over Albania when it was revealed, but Andrewy's right that they need to work on the staging.

Sweden is overrated I agree, there were many great songs in Melodifestivalen, and we ended up with a rewrite of Nessun Dorma. There are rumours that Melodifestivalen may split away from Eurovision actually :o As for UK being overrated, I don't think it will win, and it's not *that* gold a song, but Jade is AMAZE

Melodifestivalen may become a contest of it's own, and the winner may not go to Eurovision. Not to say that Sweden would pull out, but they would choose their entry in a different way. MF actually gets more viewers in Sweden than the actual contest...
MF is much bigger than ESC on its own in Sweden  And i really like this idea :o Maybe they should set up another show that finds out who is going to eurovision :heehee:

really!?! I suppose it's not a bad idea...what makes a good MF winner does not necessarily make a good Eurovision entry

for example, Snalla Snalla would have been the perfect MF winner but would have sunk without trace in Eurovision

...and at least this idea might invite some more variety into Melodifestivalen instead of 3 minute schlager tracks all over the place

Overrated: I'm tempted to suggest Norway, but given it's entirely my fault for overplaying it...Malta's pretty overrated this year too.

Underrated: Russia quite definitely...fantastic song until the end. I'd also go for Moldova and Iceland.

I'd say Albania or Israel (who am i kidding about the latter?! ) are a bit underrated. As well as Ukraine

As for overrated - Azerbaijan. Only if she doesn't show her underwear again. DO NOT stand so close to this stream thing :(

Overrated: Norway's fairy tale is way overrated and tries too hard to be universally acceptable. I've only heard it twice, not counting what might have slipped through on the radio, so I'm not burned out on it. I found it more palatable the second time, so if others feel the same way it could win in the voting, but I fear I'll quickly be sick of hearing it. Meanwhile, I don't understand the love of Romania's song. It's not a good song. Some slinky Romanian girls with suggestive lyrics isn't enough to save what is a very bland song. Also Greece. It's the only song I hated that made it through the qualifier.

Underrated: Armenia's song is hated by some but with a little better singing it could be great. Sweden takes a lot of flack at least here, but the singing was great. Save your wrath for the groups that have neither a good song nor good singing, like Czech Republic.
