May 7, 200916 yr I have to say i find this whole argument moderately amusing. The sheer desperation from both sides to prove a point is ridiculously hilarious, in my opinion they are nothing more than five puppets which will be cast off as soon as the public tire of their generic done a thousand times before rubbish.
May 7, 200916 yr Author And your statements are based on what? :heehee: What money is being poured in exactly? Because it sure as hell isn't for any music video they've made. They're not being booked into any particularly big promotional slots on TV. You're making up statistics seemingly. The label are obviously happy because they're recording the second album (have been for a couple of months already). It seems like you'd love to believe they're in trouble financially when they simply... aren't. remind me again, how much was used on their launch? £450k wasnt it? (wheres tip?), how do you think they got the comic relief deal? and supporting 'take that'? numeruous tv appearances etc. theyve been hyped (as the next big thing) and pushed into the media spotlight before they had even acheived anything! and unlike the spice girls hype and girls alouds hype the saturdays have yet to secure a #1 position! something even 'islands in the stream' acheived! the point is.... we dont know exactly how much has been spent on them, nor how much profit theyve earned, only their accountants know that. however.... why exactly are they now resorting to sluttishness? because you can bet every penny youve got that IF they were earning big money and if they were topping the charts, their clothes would stay ON!. naaaahhhh they are resorting to 'sex' to shift more units, thats the only reason why theyd do it. The Saturday's going slutty will also lead to their pre teen and teenage girl fanbase going slutty too which will lead to more sex attacks, sexual assaults, girls thinking that they should reveal loads of flesh too, girls thinking it ok to put up topless and other slutty pics on MySpace and so on, the Saturday's have a social responsibility to their fans too and by turning into sluts it will encourage their fans to turn into sluts too  you are spot on. they are trying to emulate the spice girls who cynically exploited 'yobism' in the name of 'girl power' to a PRE-TEEN FANBASE, sexualising pre-teens. <_< no wonder there are soooo many sex problems in the young nowdays.

I'm afraid you ARE wrong. Firstly, some tabloid reported the £400k figure. We don't know anything about the validity of that, whether it includes their signing fee or whether it's even true. Secondly, I don't really see any evidence of them being hyped as 'the next big thing'. As I said in a previous topic, the most hype they had created for them was during the launch of If This Is Love. Since then any hype has been word-of-mouth/public hype, not label-created hype. Thirdly, you're "if they were selling they wouldn't show any flesh" argument is one of the most ridiculous I've ever heard! Do you think that men are going to go and buy Work because the Saturdays show their legs off in the video or something? Because it just doesn't work like that, and moreover, they're attractive girls and it was always inevitable that they'd show off a bit of skin. It's a case of extreme double standards that them doing this makes them either sluts, desperate or just flops, when pretty much every other female artist does the same. Sugababes showed off flesh in the Push The Button video, Girls Aloud wear latex in Untouchable. I don't see those accusations being flung their way. Can you not just admit that all of this is born out of some strange compulsion to diss the Saturdays? I'd say it has to be. After all you've made a spirited attack on them based on the word of a tabloid newspaper, so it seems you were just waiting to re-inforce for us what you think of the Saturdays. Well, um, well done. Just in case we didn't know before, I think we do do now. I'll retract everything said above if this video involves the girls crawling across tables and licking each other's faces. Otherwise...
May 7, 200916 yr ........ so you agree with us then! Indeed though as i find them incredibly bland there is little to argue about, theres not much people can compliment on wallpaper. I admit i did warm to them a little after hearing 'Up' but the dire cover reminded me of their level 'talent'. There is a large amount of girlgroups out their which deserve more success. For example this should in an ideal world be massive this summer. b66RBHrQcK0
May 7, 200916 yr ^^ agree they are great. But they might struggle against Girls Can't Catch but i think both of them won't last very long.
May 7, 200916 yr GUH. I just read through like half of this thread but I got bored LOL. I could honestly care less about The Saturdays going 'slutty' if that's really their thing (which it isn't so it sorta reeks of desperation). But Lady Gaga is better than The Saturdays will ever be. You need to be a bit arrogant about your art/music. Seriously. Why not be proud of what you've created? And she's not impersonal / self absorbed in interviews, isn't the point of interviews to talk about and get to know an artist better? Besides the fact that Gaga co-wrote nearly the entirely album, if you just look at the quality of The Fame / Chasing Lights as album it's clear which one is far superior...good music is good music. Saturdays are not.
May 8, 200916 yr Can i just say one thing: Do the random bubbles on the right shoulder remind you of anything? http://web.orange.co.uk/images/ice/music/sarah_harding_51095f50947c384ae96080f40b43c5fe.jpg http://images.starpulse.com/news/media/Lady-Gaga-jet-2.jpg Also it looks like Una has no problem "sexing" it up. http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/multimedia/archive/00037/sat_01_0305_37222a.jpg Although, to give some credit to the girl, when she became "famous" she has vowed never to take her bra off again.

Otherwise... but do you KNOW the actual figure spent assuming it wasnt c 400k? that seems a pretty reasonable amount to launch a 'new group'. then you havnt watched much tv! or radio! they are often introduced as 'the next big thing' .... do you really believe that? that 'sexing them up' doesnt create interest from rather sad adolescent males, oh and sad adults? c'mon! most straight blokes WILL watch a vid (and consequently listen to and buy) where there are scantily dressed females cavorting about! its a cheap thrill! and you cant compare modern acts as they all do it sooner or later. the point is that if the material was any good, if they had CHARISMA, it wouldnt be nessercary (sp?) to take their clothes off. the great musical artistes have NEVER resorted to sex to sell.... this is mostly a post spice girls 'girl power' bollox that empowered females to act slutty. yep, their hype set them up to be fair game, its my sport to diss the saturdays.... point is, if you, the fans are right and they ARE good, youll win, ill lose ... fair enough, thats sport. (and i dont mind being proven wrong and that they do produce some decent music ... but so far its very very average) id prefer them to keep their clothes ON and pour their energy into producing some better material.

No-one mention Madonna's "Erotica" era...oops, just did! I find GaGa's image completely ridiculous and her music over-rated nonsense, but each to their own. If the Sats are happy to allow their management to manipulate them in that way, that's up to them. I'll still go by the likeability of their music (which is only "Up" so far!). If they don't release a half-decent second album they'll fade into obscurity anyway.
May 8, 200916 yr No-one mention Madonna's "Erotica" era...oops, just did! Difference is, a fair bit of thought went into that, and it was very multi-media as well, what with the "Sex" arty, photography book and the "In Bed With Madonna" documentary.... And, it was very much led by Madonna herself, it was a natural progression on from the "Like A Virgin/Like A Prayer/Express Yourself" stuff, I think there was a definite and very deliberate lead-up to "Erotica" which took place over several albums, as opposed to it suddenly happening overnight, I rather suspect her record company wished she hadn't been quite so bold in her moves because let's face it, it could so easily have seriously backfired... Madonna wasn't really looking to ingratiate herself with other acts out there, she kind of took a lead for others to follow.... Then she totally pulled back from it with the whole "Bedtime Stories" thing... Nah, Madonna had far more control over what was going on than most acts do....

It wouldn't be a big deal if Saturdays were selling their music to late teens or 20 somethings who, mainly, have a bit more common sense... It's a very big problem when you're talking about silly, impressionable 13/14/15 year old girls being the main demographic, and who are displaying themselves in this manner, you dont generally see 13/14/15 yo boys do this sort of sh!t and for one very good reason, because the media/music/fashion industry doesn't objectify teenage boys to anything like the degree it objectifies teenage girls..... You see Miley Cyrus and Vanessa Hudgens and other female "starlets" through their careers made up like teen-whores, you never, EVER see male teen stars like Zac Efron or The Jonas brothers objectified to anything like this degree at any stage.....
May 8, 200916 yr I'm sorry but I will never go for the 'see it on TV and do it yourself' argument. It's utterly ridiculous. It assumes the audience are entirely passive! Once you pass ten or eleven years of ago - and let's face it, the Saturdays aren't being marketed to those quite that young - you know full well what's right and wrong. You know you don't watch James Bond and then go out beating up baddies at school, and similarly you know you don't watch the Saturdays' video on TMF before pestering your parents for a corset or a pair of hot pants! Let's get real! Anyway if you really believe that then you've contradicted yourself because the likes of Just Dance appeal to kids just as young as those listening to Up or Issues, and GaGa dresses a hell of a lot more provocatively, whether for her 'art' or not.

Once you pass ten or eleven years of ago - and let's face it, the Saturdays aren't being marketed to those quite that young - you know full well what's right and wrong. you are completely wrong on this. pre-teens ARE being influenced by what they see on tv coming from pop stars. ESPECIALLY acts like the saturdays. i work in schools, and at every breaktime theres groups of pre-teen (junior) girls practising dance routines theyve seen on tv. harmless fun?... not when they (knowingly or unknowingly) copy moves that are of a sexual nature. im dead against porn/sex in pop/dance music, it encourages the young to become sexualised, throwing these images up of 'how to be when youre grown up', no wonder this country has an all time high number of sexual related statistics amongst the young/underage. its no co-incidence that these statistics (std's, pregnancies, virginity) amongst the under 16's have soared since the advent of the spice girls and 'girl power' IF the saturdays do go down this 'raunchy' route (and atm we dont know just how 'raunchy' they will be), then they are just the latest contributing factor. besides...you dont HAVE to take your clothes off to be sexy! sure, these girls are fit, but they could display it by dressing more classily.
May 8, 200916 yr i think how people like mushymanrob and grimlyfriendish only quote little bits of peoples posts 'cause they know they rest is absolutely correct.
May 8, 200916 yr Oh god, here we go again. The Saturdays have no discenible songwriting talent Not for long, if you did your research you know they're writing bucket loads for the follow up to 'Chasing Lights' which im sorry, but contains far more 'hits' than Lady GaGa's effort. If the hype around The Saturdays was the same as it was for Lady GaGa and they walked around streets calling up the paps and posing in underwear holding teacups and being all 'quirky' i believe 'Up', 'Issues' and 'Just Cant Get Enough' would of been number 1's. The song is sexy, their performance of it on Ant and Dec showed this side and they're going through with that for the video. Leave the bloody girls alone for once. You're blatently just bitter because you never thought they'd be around 1 month nevermind 1 year, get over it.

Ga Ga aint marketing herself at young teens mate.... Most of 'em wouldn't understand the sarcasm or irony in the lyrics anyway, or really fully appreciate her turn of phrase, you have to be a bit OLDER than 14 or 15 and lived a bit to really 'get' it, know what I mean.. By far the biggest demographic listening to LG is late teens, early 20s, students, fans of underground electronic, 80s stuff, etc, she's def after a more adult demographic... It's NOT the Sats/PCD/GA audience she's going for, god, are you really that dense mate that you cant tell the difference between what the two are doing...?

Well, no, because the music would still be sh!t mate..... I dont give a flying fukk about image... Image is SECONARY to me.... It wouldn't matter if you looked like the 'coolest kid' on the block, if you aint got the tunes, I cant be arsed with you, bottom line..... Similarly, I dont care if you look like you've been dragged through a hedge backwards, or wear a cr@ppy plaid shirt or ripped denims and trainers, if you write GREAT MUSIC, I wanna hear it..... GOD, why do you think I preferred Nirvana and Soundgarden over those pathetic LA Glam poseurs like Motley Crue and Poison......

God, I love the way you so completely miss the point...... I dont automatically agree or disagree completely with a person's argument... The bits I quote are the bits I feel are more open to criticism or comment, the rest I either disregard completely or agree with..... It's a bit like writing an academic essay mate, you're not gonna quote an ENTIRE chapter or a whole paragraph by a writer to make a case or an argument are you....? You'll pick out a sentence or two that you feel most succinctly makes the point....
